Nikon HS-7 overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Nikon HS-7 reviews

HS-7 Lens Hood is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from HS-7 Lens Hood I use this hood for my Nikon 105mm f/2.8 D macro lens and it works very well. I am concerned that the spring loaded clip that holds the hood on the lens that might wear out over time, but so far it has worked well. The other downside to the hood is that it cannot be reverse installed on the lens for storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Customer! I was so happy to find this lens hood! I bought it for an out of date 105mm micro D lens and it is perfect! All I could find prior to this were used ones so I was thrilled when I looked here and it was the only place that had them brand new! thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lucky find The lens is discontinued, and so is the hood. I was delighted to find that B&H still had the hood in stock. It fits the lens, and functions perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens Hood for Nikon 105 Micro 2.8D I like to have all of the goodies that go with all of my lenses - like dedicated lens hoods. This hood is a work of art. Fits the 105 micro like a glove. The hood has threads on about 3/4 of the mounting area and two small shiny steel balls that look like retractable pressure fit devices. Upon first glance it looks like a screw on hood until you notice the spring loaded finger slide clip. This clip puts tension on an inner ring that snugs the hood up on the lens. It takes a bit of fine steady hand working to install the hood - just when you think this thing can't possibly fit BAM it locks in and snugs up. Sometimes it is useful to give the hood about a 1/6 of a turn to cinch it up fully since the threads on the hood may not be aligned perfectly with the lens when installing. Comes off fairly easily with a slight twist/side pull action. Pricy little dude but this hood is a must to complete this fine lens. A 52mm cap fits inside the hood over the lens. Both the side pinch and center pinch Nikon caps work but go with the center pinch because the older side pinch cap is a bit tight to get in and aligned and you will scratch up the nice matt finish on the inside of the hood with your finger nails while installing. Good news - a 77mm lens cap fits over the outside of the hood. I tried an old side pinch Nikon cap but I'm sure the newer style center pinch will fit. The cap hangs a smidge over the outside edge of the hood when installed but stays on securely. (side note-a 77mm cap perfectly fits over the outside of the Nikon HN 23 hood that I have on my Nikon 85mm f1.8d.) The hood fits the lens perfectly but if you want to use a filter over the lens with the hood attached get one with extra deep threads in the front (I found one from Tiffen that worked) A slim style filter may have enough threads to attach a cap but the hood won't be tight and since it's metal with a great finish over it you don't want to drop it. Thanks B and H for having this hard to find item for a discontinued lens.
