Nikon PK-13 Overview

The Nikon PK-13 Auto Extension Tube provides 27.5mm of extension, and can be used with any Nikon SLR lenses longer than 50mm, or with a reversed 50mm lens (using a reverse adapter).

Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality.

The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. By moving the lens father away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.

The PK-13 fits between the camera body and lens either single or in combinations. Nikon cameras using these support them in Manual focus mode only and they are considered non-CPU lens attachments. See your cameras manual for more details on compatibility. Provides perfect coupling and retains both AI aperture and meter coupling. Does not support AF operation.

Note:
Exposure meter does not work with D90, D60, D3000, D5000. G-type lenses cannot be used. Supports AF-S lenses in Manual mode only.
The PK-13 provides a reproduction ratio of 1:1 when used with the Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 lens.

question

I have a Nikon D3100..will this work with it? if not, can you make a recommendation for what would work with it
Asked by: Anonymous
The extension tube will fit on the Nikon D3100 but it cannot be used with G-type Nikon lenses. And the D3100s meter will not work. This other brand will work on the D3100 and works with both G and D type Nikon lenses.Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set DG (12, 20 & 36mm Tubes) for Nikon Digital and Film CamerasB&H # KEAETSND Mfr # A-EXTUBEDG-Nhttp://bhpho.to/1gSv92G

I'm using a Nikon D300 and want to use my Nikon 50mm f/1.8. Nikon's website states I can use the extension tube with the lens and still retain the camera auto adjusting except for the Fstop which will be controlled by the lens aperture ring. Will this communicate with my D300?
Asked by: James
You can use this with manual focus, D type and AF-S Lenses on the D300 with metering. G type lenses cannot be used as they have no manual aperture adjustment.

Means we cannot use it on lens wider than 50mm? (28mm for instance)
Asked by: Zon Hisham
That is correct. Using a lens that is wider than 50mm could bring the focusing distance behind the front element of the lens, so it might not be able to achieve focus at all.

I used this lens and tube a lot with for me great results. Best macro wildflower pictures I could get in the field. I used on a D500 and D850. Both gave really satisfactory results.
