Furman PST-8 Overview

The Furman PST-8 Digital Power Station features Furman's SMP circuitry which incorporates Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) and a high current TVZ-MOV to insure that any electronic device (e.g. television, projector, CD-DVD player, computer, etc.) is fed clean, filtered AC power. This dramatically reduces noise, ensuring consistent peak performance from all equipment.

Furman's proprietary Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) suppresses AC noise evenly, assuring maximum performance from your system. SMP circuitry offers the highest degree of protection against electrical surges and spikes, and does this without sacrificing itself or any of its components. In addition, the Extreme Voltage Shutdown circuit automatically turns off the unit when it is fed 137 volts or higher, protecting itself and connected equipment from the extreme voltage.

8 linearly filtered outlets
Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) with a high current TVZ-MOV provides the highest level of AC surge suppression
Automatic Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) guards your valuable equipment from dangerous wiring faults
Zero ground contamination circuitry assures the delivery of pure AC power thus protecting critical audio/video components
Cable satellite and Telco connectors deliver advanced protection to connected equipment

Furman PST-8 Reviews

Superb Product at Price Point

Very well made and unbeatable at near $100 sale price, Furman PST-8 received high marks from NYT gear reviewers for its power conditioning and surge protect capabilities. They are right. I bought a second PST-8 after being impressed by the first one. One drawback is having only eight outlets. For my home theater this was an outlet or two short of my need, but the most important/valuable pieces of kit are protected. Phone line protection is a quaint legacy feature that most folks will not need or use. Highly recommend, especially when at sale price.

Clean Power for the studio electronics.

I bought my first unit just for my studio audio components-- my audio interfaces, effects boxes, and instruments. The line noise is greatly reduced- no hiss! I believe I will be buying further units for my computers and hard drives.

May be great but does not fit in available space

I am returning this unit simply because it does not fit in the space I have available on my AV shelves. Perhaps I should have looked at the dimensions more closely but once I got it out of the blister pack (no small feat by the way) I found that it was too long to fit behind the equipment where the previous surge protector was located.

Incredible surge protector.

This truly is the best surge protector I have ever encountered. Its hefty product, not made of cheap plastic; and made a real difference to the performance of our AV system. Based on the reading I did online, it is a superior form of surge protection instead of the conventional designs using sacrificial parts. This apparently is an area of debate as evidenced here: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/surge-protectors-brickwall-zero-surge-furman-surgex-etc.1146963/ The price is a minor fraction of the cost of TV, audio system, and PS5 I connect to it. I highly recommend this PST-8 for peace of mind.

Surprising Improvement

Wow. I did not think this would make as big a difference as it did to my sound system. I suppose it will depend on the quality of your power to start with, but after plugging my components into the Furman I heard a noticeable improvement in the tightness of the bass and overall clarity when listening to records over my Rega RP1 turntable. It's hard to describe but it's honestly a bit shocking. I suppose the power coming from the wall of my apartment in an old walk up building in NYC was just trash. As other reviewers have mentioned - it's bigger than I expected, but not an issue - just measure before ordering. A hugely worthwhile investment for both peace of mind and sound quality.

Excellent specs for the price. Good local surge protection and line conditioning. I use it at my entertainment center to protect TV and stereo components. In addition, I have whole house surge protection at the service entrance.

It's expensive, but it works flawlessly

I use this in multiple recording studios and it's absolutely fantastic. Zero noise/interference. Excellent layout of outlets. And with coax and ethernet connections as well, it's simply a jack-of-all-trades. A+

Dimensions

The Dimensions are bigger than advertised. It would not fit in the back of the rack case I bought it for.

How much protection will the PST-8 give against nearby lightning strikes? I know everybody says that nothing can protect against a direct strike, but I'm just wondering how much protection I can expect if there was a strike, say, on the transformer across the street.
Asked by: Neil
Unfortunately lighting is not a fixed set amount. It is impossible to say how strong a particular strike will be and how far away will be affected.

Is the power plug angled? I need something low profile and angled to fit behind a piece of furniture. The manufacturer's specs say it includes a "36 degree NEMA 15 plug". Does it stick out far from the wall?
Asked by: Todd
Yes, the plug is angled. It sits flat against the wall and protrudes probably 5/8".

My understanding is that you are not supposed to daisy-chain surge suppressors. So is it really ok to plug my APC UPS (which has surge protection) into the PST-8? Isn't that plugging one surge protector into another, which everybody says not to do?
Asked by: Neil
UPS should be plugged directly to a outlet.
