Furman PST-8 DIG Overview

The Furman PST-8 Digital Power Station features Furman's SMP circuitry which incorporates Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) and a high current TVZ-MOV to insure that any electronic device is fed clean, filtered AC power. This dramatically reduces noise, ensuring consistent peak performance from all equipment.

Furman's proprietary Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) suppresses AC noise evenly, assuring maximum performance from your system. SMP circuitry offers the highest degree of protection against electrical surges and spikes, and does this without sacrificing itself or any of its components. In addition, the Extreme Voltage Shutdown circuit automatically turns off the unit when it is fed 135 VAC or higher, protecting itself and connected equipment from the extreme voltage.

This is one of the best power protection products for home A/V that one can buy, and got it at a great price along with fast delivery from B&H.

I have been using the PST8 power station for about two weeks now to replace my $10 cheap power strip. I mainly bought it to attempt to resolve an audible buzzing noise in my headphones when connected to a desktop headphone DAC/amp. After plugging the DAC/amp directly into the PST8, the buzzing noise went away entirely. This was with both the digital filter outlet as well as one w/o filtering. Either way, I'm pretty confident the PST8 is delivering much cleaner power and that it resolved my specific issue. Happy with the purchase, although note this is much bulker than it appears in photos.

It works good so far , I just wish the plus were oriented a different way so that the power supplies from my devices fit better. It seems like this is a bigger problem than it used to be with everything getting smaller and having an external power adapter.

I haven't tested how effectively this Furman is in protecting a high end computer system from a power surge, but everything is working well and I can isolate computer power vs display. It will support high power consumption from my system when needed. Witecutter recommended which is the main reason I bought it. I wish the filtered outlets pair would be spaced out a little more to accommodate larger plugs side by side.

I haven't really experienced a surge destroying equipment for these, but I'm using these to protect televisions and equipment, and I trust Furman from using it for music equipment. Great build quality and have never had a problem.

Does this PST-8D have Line to Ground (L-G) and Neutral to Ground (N-G) protection? Apparently the label on the protector itself says "Voltage Protection Rating: L-N 330V". So no L/G and N/G protection in such an advanced unit?

Please give some examples of digitla equipment and examples of analog equipment. Is my mac desktop digital? My mac laptop when connected via its power supply, digital? My powered speakers?

Most modern electronics are digital. This is a generalization, as some digital devices may have an analog component, possibly co-existing on the same integrated circuit. An older washing machine, with a mechanical timer would be considered 'analog'. If the timing mechanism used integrated logic circuitry, it would be considered'digital'. A solid state audio power amplifier would be considered 'analog', yet it might have a 'digital' switching power supply. Just plug in what you have and ignore the labels...you will be fine.

Does it matter if I use the digital outlets with analog equipment or vice versa? Are they all the same in power conditioning or is there a difference??

I just got off the phone with a Furman customer service rep. He said there are not designated "digital" and "analog" outlets exactly, but the ones labeled "digital" are more isolated from the other circuits. This is because digital devices can sometimes cause nearby analog circuits to hum. If you have 2 analog devices and 6 digital ones, for example, you can plug the 2 analog devices into two of the "digital" outlets to isolate them, and plug your six digital devices into the rest of the outlets. They will all have the same surge protection and power conditioning.

I get the impression that this unit is inferior to the standard PST-8. Will plugging in analogue devices into the digital outlets produce worse results? Are the digital outlets weaker in some way to the analogue outlets?

No, it will not produce worst results. Both the digital and analog labeled outlets would support either type of device.

Are all 8 outlets surge protected? The documentation for the pst-8 says that all 8 outlets are filtered and surge protected while the documentation for the 8d says that there are 4 linear and 4 digital outlets without mentioning the surge protection.
