Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit Overview

The Savage Background Port-A-Stand Kit consists of two black folding upright stands that can rise to a height of 8' 10", a crossbar that can expand to a width of 9' 5", and a travel case with handle.

It is ideal for the photographer on the go. The stand (w/o paper) is lightweight (12 lb / 5.4 kg), and compact, collapsing to less than 44 inches.

The Port-A-Stand is designed to safely support 9' rolls of seamless paper, as well as cloth backgrounds as heavy as muslin. For 10' wide cloth backgrounds, either fold the edges under, or gather and drape the material to fit the width of the crossbar.

For extra safety, weights or sandbags are available as accessories to secure the setup around active children.
And don't forget a clamp or two, to secure your included roll of white seamless paper or to drape your cloth background more creatively.

Designed to support a paper or cloth background, up to 9' wide by 36' long.
Folds down quickly and is stored in the included travel case.

Impossible to open and close

This background kit is tricky... the carrying bag is super cheap as almost everyone else mentioned. The stand itself is nice however the legs were so, so impossible and difficult to open and close. The mechanism on the stand is way too tight and actually scrapes the paint off the pole as you open or close it. Even my husband struggled. We debate wd40'ing it but who wants greasy hands every time you open and close this thing (and then try to set up your paper after)? So I think if you were going to set this up once and have it live in your studio forever, it's perfect. But if you plan to set up/break down more than once, it's really just a headache. Also, to note: I paid $30 to ship it to me and then another $50+ to ship it back to B&H. The product itself was $150...total waste of money!

I bought this a few yrs ago and eventually ordered a second as I needed one. It arrived and I noticed the material was different and felt cheaper but I had used the same link from my previous ordered so figured it would still be the same. Unfortunately, it broke one day while setting up which has never happened and could've been dangerous. Don't recommend purchasing this stand at all. Their customer service (not b&h) was also poor. Very disappointed.

What is the width of the Stand set up with a 107 Savage Roll of Paper? I need to know, because my studio's width is 137 .

The width is dependent on the cross bar and in this case the crossbar will extend out to a maximum of 9 feet, 5 inches.

So long as you do not add too much of a softbox it should be doable, but obviously it will not hold the background at the same time.

It says that the stands can be used to hold lighting. Is there a separate adapter needed to attach a flash or continuous lighting?

Normally, these stands are only used for holding backgrounds. However, an adapter such as the Smith-Victor 568 Universal to 5/8 Adapter B&H # SMLSAU58 could be used. Your results may vary.
