Pana-Vue FPA005 Reviews

If you have thousands of 35mm slides, you want this

Back in the film days, I was shooting B&W negative film and color slides. Although I still have a slide projector, getting it out, finding a dark room, setting up the screen and inviting people to see the slides isn’t going to happen. Instead, I’m scanning my slides and needed a way to select which ones to scan and which ones to toss. This viewer has been available for at least six decades, I remember seeing them in camera shops and catalogs when I was a kid. I owned a similar unit made by Airequipt but it’s long gone. This used to be made by Sawyers, a major vendor of slide projectors and the old ViewMaster stereo disk viewers. They are long gone and the PanaVue name has changed hands, but the current owners are still making this viewer exactly the same and at a reasonable price, too. The only sign of it’s age is that it uses D batteries, which is why I give it only 4 stars. It’s well worth it to buy the accessory AC adaptor, B&H carries it as well as replacement bulbs. Not much else to say, it does the job and there’s not a lot of alternatives these days…in fact I know of none.

Flimsy-Doesn't hold up

This slide viewer is not worth the money. Option for battery use is terrible - you have to take the whole thing apart to put the batteries in, and the mechanism is very cheap and flimsy. Used this on 100+rolls of slides in the first 2 days, and it no longer feeds slides properly.

question

Will this viewer work with glass mounted 2 slides?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is a nice little projector but I only tried regular slides in it. I do not know if glass-mounted would work.

question

What is the magnification for this device? thank you
Asked by: Anonymous
I'm sorry I'd be happy to help but I don't know the answer. It was a gift for my sister so I don't have the unit, the packaging or the paperwork and I never did use it myself. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

question

I also would like to know the magnification of model #6566.? #6560 is advertised to have 4X magnification. Surely you could determine this as it is an important feature.
Asked by: Bessbessiris D.
THe magnification is also 4x
