Does the job
Puts these handy little flashes where you need them when they're not on the lens ring.
Holds an SB-R200 or 8
Original stand included with the SB-R200. Note that the SB-R200 does not have a normal shoe mount, so this is the only stand that is going to work. The Nikon SX-1 ring will accept up to 8 SB-R200 speedlights. You might not know that the SX-1 ring can be attached to the AS-20 speedlight stand. (Normally the SX-1 is attached to a lens). To the previous reviewer, my R1 kit included two of the AS-20 stands. The AS-20 stand is tapped so it can be mounted to any tripod. My very minor complaint is that the AS-20 is a light-grey color rather than black.
Very useful item for Nikon macro fans
Who am I to question Nikon, but there is only one of these stands that comes with the really neat R1 kit. The kit has two, yes two, SB-R200 lights, but only one stand! The AS-20 stand is useful because it enables one to use the SB-R200 lights on a tripod (the feet on the SB-R200 won't fit a normal hot shoe), and for those of us that have macro lenses that can't use the R1 ring adapter, like the 70-180mm Micro, the ability to use the flash units on a tripod is a definite plus. Luckily, all the components of the R1 kit can be purchased separately. Thanks, Nikon!
Useful auxiliary support for SB-R200 Speedlights
The Nikon AS-20 Speedlight stands work with the Nikon SB-R200 Speedlights and let one move the SB-R200 flashes off of the SX-1 attachment ring on the camera lens. The are useful for macrophotography. They also have a tripod thread on the bottom. NOTE: these stands do not work with other Speedlights; they are designed to fit the SB-R200 Speedlights (for a stand for other Speedlights, 'consider the Nikon AS-19, etc.).
Stand for SB-200 Flash Head
This little stand is a delight. It holds the SB-200 flash upright, or it attaches to a tripod. Very useful. We just watched the Nat'l Geo DVD set on photography where they used remote flash(es) to light certain distant subjects. These flash units, along with the in-camera Nikon Creative Lighting System, lets me experiment with that idea.
