This enlarger works. After the simple assembly, I plugged it in and turned the switch and there was no light. So I unscrewed and opened up the lamp house, and found I had to tighten the bulb. Once the light started working I noticed the projection was off center, due to the bulb itself being loose inside the lamp house, (which also caused the filter tray to get stuck), so I pressed the bulb all the way into its place and it locked in nicely. The bottom corners still underexpose a bit, but I just give them a burn and my prints come out fine. A small problem I had was the negative carrier having a tiny mark on the edge, visible on the projection, but I filed it down and it looks good now. The switch works fine on its own, but it’s a spinning one like some lamps have, so a timer is a good investment. All in all, this is a fine piece of equipment for the price. As far as some complaints on some other reviews go, if you don’t wanna spend an extra half hour fine tuning this enlarger, and you aren’t okay with having to burn the corners of your prints, then spend the 2 grand on another model. Also, lighting fast response and shipping from B&H. Everything I ordered was packed carefully.

Simple, for beginners.

I just got into film photography and enlarging. But I will say, if you don’t have the multi grade filter set, use times as short as just under a second to maybe two seconds. I don’t have any complaints about it.this enlarger is simple to use, easy to assemble, and for the price it’s a perfect starter enlarger.

question

The only kind of film I currently shoot is 35mm, so this enlarger is all I really need. However, I wanted to buy a separate, much nicer lens to go with it, for sharper prints. What size mount does this enlarger use, and what kinds of lenses will it take?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are other possible lens boards but the one this kit comes with is 39mm. So other enlarging lenses that are 39mm mount will work fine. There are longer lenses, shorter lenses and better lenses in general made. A longer lens is usually for larger format printing.Below are some better lenses.
