    Pelican 1650 Reviews

1650 Case with Foam (Desert Tan) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 206.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best case I've ever owned! I transport my equipment all the time, and sometimes I need superior protection: potholes, accidents, unconcerned baggage handlers, etc. With this case, I don't have to worry about any of those. The case was unsecured in my trunk when I was rear-ended. With massive damage to my vehicle, having heard the case thrown into my rear seats, I feared worst. After inspecting the exterior of the case, I saw no damage--not even a scratch. My camera and lenses looked untouched. I also had a small glass instrument in the case, which was equally unharmed. This is hands-down the safest, most secure, best protecting case I have ever used.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, but a little inconvenient. This product is really ideal for someone trying to move a good amount of photography gear. The wheels are super fluid. Build quality is on point. Unfortunately, it was a lot bigger than I was planning and I had already made some shapes in the foam so I couldn't send it back. The only thing i recommend with this product is to be very cautious. Make sure that it's the size you want/need. Also, before you cut the foam, MAKE SURE thats where you want it cause there is really no turning back. Other than me not being patient, the product is fantastic and I recommend all the pelican products to anyone looking for a sturdy for of transportation for their valuable gear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What happend to Pelican Cases The new Pelican 1650 case is really a Storm Case. The case will not stand up straight because the bottom feet or fins are no longer part of the new design. The long main handle is gone so if the case load is not balanced it's hard to carry. The old design allowed you to position your grip to compensate for the load imbalance. Also the built in retractable extension handle is now two piece with supports that get caught on everything. The old design was one piece and flat it was way better and easier to deal with. I wasn't a big fan of the Storm Cases and really liked the Pelican products but with the merger of Pelican and Storm cases, Pelican cases have really become a Storm case. I understand that changes happen but they should be changes that make the case better not worse. These cases are still a good deal but I would rather have the option and pay a little bit more and get a case that works. There was no reason to change this case other then to make it cheaper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Fit for Telescope Equipment I have two 1650 cases to store telescope equipment: - one to store a Celestron Nexstar 8SE (tube + mount + small accessories) - one to store a Celestron CGEM DX mount. They fit in the case using either the provided foam or using the original styrofoam of the Celestron product (but in that case you need to do some cutting of the styrofoam to adjust its size to the case). The equipment fits nicely and feels well protected. The only drawback is that this is quickly getting very heavy: the case is 25lb, the CGEM DX mount is 55lb so that's 80lb total! But that's still transportable thanks to the wheels and large handles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this case We're using this case to ship an all-in-one touch-screen computer to and from trade shows, so we needed something durable but relatively light weight, and this case was the best option I found. Overall I'm very happy with it. The foam was easy to customize for our unit, the latches are sturdy, seal seems good. Extending the handle requires two hands, but that's a minor complaint. The latches take some strength to close, no doubt due to the water-tight seal, but anyone who couldn't make them close would probably have trouble lifting the case anyway, so I'm not concerned about that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Casey This thing rocks. The sturdiness and quality is there. Will be very heavy when it's full of gear. Lugging it up a flight of stairs can get you winded. I have 3 DSLRS, 4 lenses, recorder, mics, wireless mic and receiver, and every other little doodad I could ever need for a wedding in here and I STILL have room to grow. That's good. Only downside that I see so far is that the foam isn't quite RIGID enough for me... It starts off rigid enough, but has already become kind of 'flappy' and loose a little bit. Not bad, but still. I believe there's a spray product I could spray all over the foam to kinda glue it together. I think I'll do that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You just can't go wrong with a case from Pelican I've used Pelican Cases for years and knew they are awesome cases. When the company I am now working for started purchasing equipment for the video department, I knew I needed a Pelican Case to store, protect and carry all of the expensive video gear. There was a BHPhoto black Friday sale that knocked about $50 off the list price so we went for it. It wasn't the exact dimensions were looking at, but at the price range it was a good deal and the spec weren't far off from what we initially wanted. Overall its a great case and will make further Pelican purchases in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Product! I bought this case to protect my portable trace explosive detection equipment. Before, I was lugging around smaller, heavy cases, but this case allowed me to consolidate my equipment. The foam was super easy to work with and the equipment presents itself boldy in its new home. The ergonomics of the extended come-along handle are the best I've experienced, and I do not feel like I have to be hunched over when walking with the case. I have total confidence that my valuable equipment is protected in this rugged case, and I plan to purchase another one in the next month, based on how happy I have been with this case so far!
