yeah, it comes off completely. Black backing lays over the umbrella, and small sleeves on the corners of the backing insert into the metal spar-tips of the umbrella, stretching it over the white umbrella.

Can this umbrella be used with 500 wattt tungsten continuous lighting?
I used my umbrellas a lot for shoot thru with 500 watt tungsten continuous lighting and over time... over time... the material started to yellow... and by time I mean just a few shoots...
so turn it off when your not using it and dont have the umbrella too close... I think thats what really burned mine... then again... they are cheap enough...
