This is an Impact 30" white satin umbrella with removable black backing. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a softbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

This size is perfect for a 1 person head shot, or a 2x3 ft product setup.

Backing may be removed half way, providing a unique combination of light bounced from different surfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great! Great for its size and portability on a 6' light stand with remote hotshoe flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy fix! I use the umbrella as a light modifier, helping to soften and scatter the light from my flash for portraits. This is very good construction, and very reasonable value! I was surprised... thought everything associated with my hobby, photography, was expensive! LOL But this was a no-brainer. I bought two umbrellas, just because. And B and H is a fantastic resource; reliable, prompt delivery, even when I get it for free! Thanks, B and H, keep up the good work!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I used it to add light for a trio of classical musicians in a church setting, and it softened my halogen source nicely. I had hoped the fill would be more pronounced but that depends of course on how powerful the light source is to begin with. Depending on how well I am able to keep the light/stand/umbrella set-up from becoming too noticeable I plan to continue using it on a regular basis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Soft Light I bought this to use for pictures of my kids. My Canon 430EX was giving off a very harsh flash, and I bought this to help soften and give a more natural light. I like shooting with the flash behind the umbrella and going through the white material - gives a great soft effect. Note that I'd recommend the stand and bracketing to go with this so you don't have to hold it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, Sturdy, Well Built Umbrella This is a good, sturdy, well built umbrella and works well for its intended use - probably best used for individual head/shoulders portraits and small product shoots. A 30 umbrella is probably not well suited for shooting larger groups or big products simply because it can't throw enough light. But for smaller scenarios, this umbrella works well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product! First off I'd like to say that I love ordering at BH. ... the product always comes as described.I needed a compact umbrella with the possibillity to convert it to a shoot throug to bring along on an upcoming Europe trip as part of my mini studio. And that's exactly what this product is. Its build quality for the price is above average and when handled with care you should get more than your money's worth. This umbrella is sort of a dichotomy, it is small in size so it's incredibly portable which is why I bought it but do to it's small size you loose a bit of softness in the photos but depending on your creative skills you can still get a very acceptable amount of softness in your portraits, a lot more than using direct, on camera flash. I have tested it in various setups indoor and outdoors and I'm very impressed with it's ability to light up a subject outdoors as well which was also a requirement for me.All in all, a good product to have for it's very affordable price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would buy this product again. This is a very good umbrella - easy to operate, good reflectance, seems sturdy. Mounts on any number of standard stands and tripods. Effective out to 15 feet from subject (or more, depending on how much light reflection is expected of it). Is very useful for off-camera flash when no assistant is available.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Multifunction Easy to remove the black cover. I'm a newbie to photography so I don't have a standard to compare it too. For me, it does the job It's a bit smaller than I thought it would be (I use metric measures and didn't calculate very well ) So I ordered a 43'' right after
