Impact UBBW60 Overview

This is an Impact 60" white satin umbrella with removable black backing. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a softbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

This size is perfect for a 1 - 2 person full-length portrait, or a 4x6 ft product setup.

Backing may be removed half way, providing a unique combination of light bounced from different surfaces.

Reviewed the 45 version earlier and I thought I was talking about this one. LOL. Anyhoo, great umbrella that I have used once and was very impressed, but my studio is minute and it gets in the way a bit. But bigger lights are better so got it. Impact makes good quality gear at good prices.

This larger umbrella works great and is inexpensive yet puts out a very pleasing light on my assignment work. I use it both as a shoot-thru as well as reflective light source.

Big enough for half to full body shots, even for outdoor use if wind conditions allow or assistant holding it in place. Usable as a reflecting umbrella or shoot-through. Lightweight and compact. Love it!

Needed a convertible umbrella and gave this one a shot. Used it yesterday for some indoor pics and used it as a rim light behind my subjects with just the white. It gave a nice soft light for highlights and didn't need to crank up to max on my little speedlight. I also like the solid feel of the umbrella stem or rod.

Super price and great value for he money!

Same results are the same as a more expensive brand.

Huge umbrella!

This umbrella is big! Kinda unyielding in a small room but helps diffuse light nicely. Not sure how sturdy attachment points are for the black cover, but time will tell.

question

What type of light source would you need to fill this big of an umbrella? Could a battery powered speedlight (specifically an old Vivitar 285HV) fill this or would you need a monolight/strobe?
Asked by: Anonymous
any flash will do... especially indoors. as you move out into brighter environments you might need an adapter to put 2 or 3 flash heads on it to overpower sunlight, but I have rarely needed more than one sb700.

question

One more question: Is it really a true 60 diameter, not the 60 measurement of the Westcott that measures along the arc of the umbrella rater than the actual flat tip-to-tip measurement?
Asked by: Frank
The diameter is 58 on the umbrella I purchased. Works great for the price.
