Nikon 2161 Overview

The AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens from Nikon is a versatile, lightweight telephoto zoom lens that has been designed to meet the demands of both digital and 35mm format SLR users. Incorporating Nikon's second-generation Vibration Reduction (VR II) system enables flexible hand-held shooting by stabilizing the image to compensate for the blur caused by camera shake. This provides the equivalence of 2.5 shutter speed stops to help in capturing sharper images in low light or at extended zoom lengths. The Silent Wave Motor and Internal Focusing system provide fast and quiet auto focusing action, and the nine-blade rounded diaphragm makes out-of-focus elements blend smoothly to produce natural-looking, harmonious backgrounds.

Versatile Telephoto Zoom
A lightweight telephoto zoom for FX format DSLRs provides extensive reach to magnify distance subjects. When used on a DX-format DSLR, its 35mm focal length equivalence is 105-450mm.
Silent Wave Motor
The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables quiet auto focusing with quick and convenient switching between auto focus and manual operation.
Internal Focusing
The Internal Focusing (IF) design for a fixed lens length and non-rotating front element allows the use of circular polarizing filters and lens-mounted flash accessories.
Nikon VR II (Vibration Reduction) Image Stabilization
Vibration Reduction, engineered specifically for each VR NIKKOR lens, enables handheld shooting at up to 2.5 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible for sharper still images and video capture.
Extra-Low Dispersion Glass
Two ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration across the entire zoom range while ensuring high resolution and contrast.
Super Integrated Lens Coating
Nikon's proprietary lens coating improves light transmission, reducing ghosting and flare.
Rounded Diaphragm
9-blade rounded diaphragm makes out-of-focus elements blend together smoothly for natural-looking backgrounds.

question

Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D7200 ?
Asked by: Rosa H.
Yes, you can use this lens on the D7200. Although this lens is FX format, which is full frame, and the D7200 is DX format, which has a sensor that is 1.5x smaller, it can still be mounted and used. Your field of view will change by 1.5, so an FX format 70-200mm lens on the DX format camera will have the same field of view as a 105-300mm lens on an FX camera.

question

Is this considered an off market lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, I checked this out carefully. It is a very good lens, just not the newest. It is priced lower than the newest model 70-200. Have used it quite a lot and would get it again in a heartbeat.

E-mail Nikon all the info you have both on the box and lens and they will be glad to tell you where it was made etc.

The Nikon VR II offers an increase of stabilization up to 4 stops compared to the original VR which stabilized only up to 3 stops. Most of the current Nikon lenses with VR have the newest version of this feature.
