Fujinon HSs18x5.5 Overview

The Fujinon HSS18x5.5BRM is a high quality 18x lens designed to be used with the XDCAM HD line of Sony cameras. Known for their high build quality and precision optics, Fujinon lenses have become the industry standard for professional video applications all over the world. The focal-length range is 5.5 to 99mm with a minimum object distance of 0.6 meters, or about 2 feet.

This lens not only resolves images for high definition acquisition, it's also equipped with a wide array of extra features. These features include the patented QuickZoom technology, making it easy to verify focus.

QuickZoom Technology
The lens has added capability when zooming, using the QuickZoom switch. At the touch of a button the lens can move to full telephoto in less than a second. This provides a no-hassle way of verifying focus.
High Definition Ready
Many high definition cameras are hamstrung by insufficient optics. Electronic News Gathering (ENG) lenses are traditionally built to accommodate standard definition video cameras. This lens is designed specifically with high definition in mind. The optics increase fidelity, making sure HD footage is crystal clear.

Hi. I'd like to ask whether this lens is compatible with Sony PMW-300 and whether it improves image quality (especially sharpness) significally compared to original lens which I am using. Best regards Blaz.

The PMW-300 is a 1/2 sensor camcorder with a Sony EX mount. Therefore it is supposed to take this lens. Re whether or not it is a viable upgrade, I would say that you will see and feel a great increase in build quality and pleasure in using it. It will be the difference as in going from a good quality family automobile to a luxury level sedan. As to the sharpness, going from a good quality lens to an excellent quality lens you will have to have a trained eye, an eye that will see the increase in image quality, increased sharpness, better color, lessened distortion and lowered chromatic aberration. In short, you will see the difference if you look.
