    Quantum Instruments Turbo SC Reviews

Turbo SC Battery Pack for Portable Flashes (US / Canada / Japan Plug) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 193.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dont wait another day! I am a full time wedding pro, I put this off for so long cause of the price thinking I would just keep using my old nikon double a battery pack and that it was good enough. I was dead wrong - I never miss any thing from outshooting and better yet I shoot 10 hour weddings and strobe and flash the entire time and still have yet to drain this beast. Well let me demystify one benefit to this turbo pack - it has no fall off as it gets low on juice- it is as strong at 1 green light left as it is on 4 lights. Unlike double A's as they get drained they take longer and longer to recharge the flash. Go get this thing , you will be glad you did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect addition for the Canon 580EX If nothing else, this battery pack gives peace of mind. This pack is SMALL. I can clip it on my belt or stick it in an inside coat pocket. If it wasn't for the cable from the battery pack to the camera, I would forget it was even there. The Turbo SC give me the ability to do rapid fire flash shots all day and not worry about if/when it will die (something that I would not trust the batteries in the flash to do...even the new Lithium AA's). Several people told me that this was something I didn't need and to just use those $18-$25/set of AA's. Once they saw how small, powerfull and reliable this was...they changed thier opinion (one of them is ordering one).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Workhorse & lightweight This is my 2nd unit - I bought the 1st way back in 2007 and that unit is still running smooth as well. Very dependable and lots of shots for the weight. I average approx. 300-350 rapid fires using TTL with my quantum t5d. I average a bit more shots when connected manual and fired remotely (ie, used for secondary room fill light). I use it for weddings & portrait shoots. This doesn't have as much power as the Turbo-3, but it is significantly lighter & less $$. Finally, I tried 1 other brand to save a few dollars and had to return it and return Quantum. I can't think of any cons except that it is a bit pricey, but it comes down to trade-offs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I will reccomend I use my Turbo SC Battery Pack by Quantum to power my canon 580EXII...I use this mainly at events and weddings..everthing worked perfect at the beginning with great results..its just that at times strange things are happening with the Turbo battery pack that I do not understand and No reading material or info is sent in the box when I bought the product..A basic manual would have gone a long way to help in this regard..so I would not have to be troubleshooting on the internet for answers...most electronic equipment the answers are right there in the manual and the Turbo battery back just seem not to have a manual...that is the only reason I gave a 4 star rating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quantum Turbo SC Battery I have been using this with my Canon Speedlite 580 EX II for a little over a year now. This product works well if you read the literature and fully understand the indicators on the battery pack, how to connect and power up the unit, and most importantly how to set up the custom functions on your flash. For the Canon Speedlite 580 EX II you have to set the C.FN 12 to 1 for recycling with an external power source. Most people know this, but there was also a notice by Quantum that states you should set C.Fn 01 to 1 to disable the flash going to sleep mode. C.Fn 01 is a great feature if running on straight AA batteries, but if the flash goes to sleep the Quantum Turbo SC loses it's connection to the flash. You can determine if the Quantum Turbo SC has detected the connection to the flash by checking the yellow LED with the Flash symbol on the battery pack. If the LED is steady on you have a good connection to the flash. If the yellow LED is flashing it means that the high voltage has shutdown because the connection to the flash has not been detected. I am embarrassed to admit how long it took me to figure out why I wasn't getting the flash to fire as often as I was expecting it to when connected to the Turbo SC. Hopefully this will help somebody else out down the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from reliable lightweight confortable If you're still fishing in your camera backpack for fresh AA batteries during a critical time in the shoot, give up about $and relax. The Turbo SC is so lightweight you barely know it's either clipped to your belt or hung from your neck with the free leather strap. It charges fast, and holds that charge for hundreds of flashes. The cable seems well made, but I'll know more once I've used it on a couple dozen photojournalism assignments. I do lots of work aboard boats, mostly sailing, and the unit gives me just what I need for fill flash in an environment that requires a lot of hopping around. No complaints so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now That's Power! I have purchased two of the Quantum Turbo packs so far and I love and use them both. I have them power my Nikon SB 800 on camera to ensure that I'm not losing any shots due to the regeneration time of the flash. I must say that at full power you don't miss any part of the wedding or the kids sequence shots while on location. I use my second to power my off camera SB 800 to do the same. I was shooting in a cave of a ballroom last week and all the extra power was extremely needed. I would only have half the shots without them. It fits comfortably on my belt and recharges quickly. For wedding use at mostly full power on flash it will run about four hours. Strongly suggested!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome This is so helpful for any kind of photography, When yr regular AA runs out this guys give you at least 15 times many more pops with yr strobe Just make sure u have new batteries, and dont have too high expectations, it is after all just a on camera flash, if you click no stop like 20 full strobes it obviously need a second to recover But with the turbo pack you even risk to burn out yr camera strobe, Also be very care full when attaching your cord to the strobe I burnt out my canon after trying to jam it it the wrong way when it was on, Cost me $ 100 at the canon repair center

What are the NIKON cable numbers made by Quantum ...

What are the NIKON cable numbers made by Quantum ? DO B&H carry these?
    Asked by: Sam
While the particular cable you would require would depend on the flash brand/model you own (or the camera brand/model if the battery pack is to power the camera) which is not listed above, the Quantum Instruments CKE2 Power Cable for Turbo Series Battery, Packs B&H # QUCKE2, is the most recommended option from Quantum Instruments for Nikon Speedlight Flashes.

    question

Does Quantum Turbo SC work with Nikon SB600 speed light?
    Asked by: kay h.
It will not work. The circuit board on the sb600 doesnt have a high enough voltage to handle it. But the sb800 loves the turbo. Take care

No. The quantum sc battery is superb and will not have this issue. It turns on and it turns off with the press of a button.

    question

Does the Quantum Turbo SC work with Nikon SB5000 speed light?
    Asked by: Anne
I don't see why it wouldn't so long as you can find the right cable. I use it with SB800 as well as SB26. The SB5000 appears to have the adapter port on the front.
