    Rode DEADKITTEN Reviews

Dead Kitten Artificial Fur Wind Shield is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cuts windnoise, but also cuts the highs I purchased these twice, used them on PCM-M10 and Rode NT4 over supplied foam. Windblocking performance is very good on M10 but mediocre in NT4, the NT4 diaphragms being overly sensitive to wind and handling noise, blimp is the only way to go. Finally, these furries are expendables. Within a few months of heavy field use, audible performance degradation (hf loss) will occur. This is due to piling, knotting of hair, dust and oil accumulation and hairloss. No amount of combing and washing will restore performance, you need to buy a new one. These cannot match the transparency of blimp, even when new. Some amount of eq may only partially restore it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Useful, but not much Wind protection for microphones works best if the mic is suspended in a still air environment, such as a blimp. I bought this to sue with the Rde iXY mic (same physical mics arrangement ad their NT4). With both of these mics (I also own the NT4), it fits over the foamy. But, there os no acoustic decoupling, so the combo of the foamy and furry are barely better than the foam by itself. Though a bare mic would be pretty useless outdoors in any sort of light breeze. So, it is better than nothing, but if you REALLY want to minimize wind noise on your mic, this won't do it, without doing something else to block wind from hitting the furry/foamy covered mic. I barely recommend this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works as well as I hoped; great. Dead quiet in all but the strongest gusts of wind, yet does not seem to redeuce sensitivity. Plus it's fun to tell your friend's; I shoot much better, now that I got a deadkitten with the shotgun on my canon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Wind Shield! Dead Kitten fits nice and snug over the foam (wind shield?) of my Rode-NT4. Works great in any wind under about 20-25mph!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well. Needs Foam Mic Cover Also I bought the Dead Kitten to use with a Zoom H1 recorder mounted to my DSLR rig. When I put the Dead Kitten directly on the Zoom, it was still susceptible to some wind noise. I have the Dead Cat for my Rode NTG-2. I realized that the Dead Cat was meant to go over the foam mic cover. I rigged a foam cover and the Dead Kitten worked great like its big brother. I was able to shoot all day and wind noise was not a problem. Now I am ordering the foam mic cover for the Zoom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid item, no frills. It does what it's supposed to! -Allows for wonderful sound quality, even in fairly windy conditions. -Doesn't affect sound quality in normal situations, so you never have to take it off. EVER. -Fits snugly. -Doesn't interfere with mic control interface. My only complaint is that it sheds a little bit, but only slightly. Totally unavoidable. :P (Bonus feature- it makes your mic look more professional!) Hehe If you're an amateur film maker, and you have a corresponding Rode microphone, you NEED a Dead Kitten, just get it. You wont regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from purchased for Zoom H2N For the price, you can't beat this wind shield and it fits perfectly on my Zoom H2N. It does a much better job than the typical foam wind screen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good spare Take note that the SVM comes with one.
