    Sony RM-1BP reviews

RM1BP Remote Commander is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 84.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best one I have used I have used and own several other manufactures and none of those works as nicely as the Sony RM1BP! I read the other reviews before purchasing this. I bought only one to make sure it will work as the reviews stated. I have built my own controller for distance work, so I know the limitaions of the LANC codes. I like the slow transition on start and end of zoom. My other operators all prefer using this controller over the others. I will be buying more for my other 3 cameras!!! I use this on the Sony NX5U and PXW-X180.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the Job but needs slower setting I bought this because I do alot of interview shooting on a tripod, and It was hard to zoom without making the camera move. This does the job but only has 3 speed settings on the zoom control. Even the slowest speed is not slow enough for me. I shoot really tight sometimes and i like to do an ultraslow pull or push. This unit is just too fast for that effect. One thing I do like is that it eases in and out of the push/pull. When you let off to end a push/pull it doesn't stop abruptly it will slow to a stop. This is subtle but helps so much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but could be great Really nice well built remote control. I expect it to last a long time, solid construction, and does everything as advertised. Very convenient when attached to a tripod arm. However, when using away from camera, with extension cable, does not easily lie flat on surface, and therefore can be a bit cumbersome whe using it away from camera. This is a minor point, but some additional thought in design could have addressed this inconvenience. I would also like to have seen more control features. Seems a bit overpriced when compared to other Sony products. Overall, for hooking to a tripod and working basic camera controls, this remote works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great with Sony HXR-NX30 The biggest regret I had about buying the Sony HXR-NX30U was that my Varizoom VZ-Rock would not work with it. I spent literally years trying to find a cheap solution. Finally I bit the bullet and bought the RM1BP and used, I believe it was, a Bogen cable adapter. I relearned a powerful lesson my dad taught me years ago... stop screwin' around and just do it. In fact, I like this better than the VZ-Rock since you can limit the zoom speed. Everything except the rec preview button works great. I really feel like this controller but me back in the game with my trusty NX30. I deducted a star because it really shouldn't be this expensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good, but not great everything about it is great and works fine... only one complaint. I can't zoom as slowly with this unit as I can with the camera's zoom servo. This is dissappointing. Focus moves way too fast to be practical, but I'm not sure who would use a remote for focus anyway. Other than that it works as expected and feels pretty good when operating. It's a little expensive, but the construction feels pretty quality and I prefer the feel of this one to that of the Bogen and other remotes. It attaches to the tripod easily and has a good grip so it doesn't slip. Bummer about the slowest speed not being so slow though. I'm using a Z7U.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So it's a Sony Sony RM-1BP it works good. I like the selector, that allows changing the zoom rocker speed control. It could have more control in the slow mode. Maybe two speeds for slow. The controls work good. It is made of plastic, so life expectancy might be low. Get the extended warranty. If you can two or more years trouble free. It's worth it buy the Sony RM-1BP. I like that I can use my thumb if I have the tripod and the low position or normal position. I like that if I got the tripod above my head I can use just my index finger to operate the zoom controller. The start-stop record switch has a positive feeling. The controller mounts to tripods with larger handles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have Outstanding product. A must for weddings and special events. The speed control switch is a great idea, It helps control the zoom speed. No matter how hard you press on the the switch, it will still move smoothly with ease.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony Remote Zoom - Great Unit I use this on a Sony NX5 and my previous remotes worked fine, but on this camera, the zoom although gradual, is full speed when you hold the button right down. That is too fast when filming. This RM1BP has three settings you select with a switch, and they work perfectly. I found the medium is fine for most use. So when you have it on medium, it is still gradual zoom speed based on how hard you push the rocker, but when you have the rocker right down, the fastest zoom is not as fast as the camera fast zoom. Some other reviews have talked about the plastic build. This is fine, and not an issue. You treat these things carefully, and it is good as others I have used.
