    Pelican 1634 reviews

1634 Transport 1630 Case with Dividers (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Monster case, tons of storage. Even knowing the measurements ahead of time, I was surprised by how huge this thing is. It has two levels of storage, with a well designed lift-out top level. Happily, when I go on location with this case, I can fit all my flashes, diffusers, gaffer tape, cords, wireless triggers, a couple of folded light stands and other sundry bits. The whole thing locks up and has capacity for a couple of padlocks for safe travel. Its wheeled and while I wouldn't want to lug it too far, it handles a great deal of equipment in the usual safe Pelican case manner. Safely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Case. tons of storage, durable. I bought this case because I have outgrown my Pelican 1510, which I had been working out of. That is to say, the 1510 sits open in an upstairs location where its easy to quickly fill my Lowepro Messenger shoulder bag, or to just grab the camera and a few filters to head out the door for a quick walk. The 1510 is the largest Pelican case legal for carry on and it makes a great travelling case since your kit is never checked-in. But, being the size it is, my 1510 is overflowing with lenses, filters, stepping rings, etc. I also own a Pelican 1560, but this is generally in the basement, and is primarily used for storing lighting materials, etc, for on-site photo shoots. I wanted to have a Pelican case that would be my daily storage case to work out of, and I decided to quit mucking about, and get a good sized case that would forever free me from not having space enough for what I need at a shoot. So I got the 1634 Transport case. Yikes. This thing is big. BIG. Even knowing the measurements, its a behemoth. The two-tier storage is a great idea, and there are even a decent set of rubber handles on the upper tray for ease of movement (make sure when trying to snap the lid closed that these handles are clear of the lid...) There is a great deal of space, all of it inside the usual, dependably-strong and secure Pelican case. Velcro attached movable walls, all the usual Pelican design features that afficianados of the brand know. On the 1634, there are side snaps in addition to the front snap=down closures, which increases the water resistance. The extending handle and roller wheels are a necessity on a case this size. Once its all snapped closed and ready to roll, its intimidatingly large. Now, my 1510 is for flights where I want all my camera kit with me as carry-on. My 1560 has graduated from lighting equipment storage to my day to day kit, with lots more space and replacing my 1510 as my daily user, and the new monster 1634 is the basement main storage locker for all my lighting equipment and other odds and ends. Now, going to a photo-shoot, with this case and either my 1510 or 1560, I'll have all my lenses, filters, flash guns, gels filters, step rings, covers, etc etc, well and truly protected. Doing it all over again, I would consider this as a purchase where you know you'll have a number of camera items to store in one place in the house, with minimal travel. This thing is almost 40lbs empty, so plan on going over your baggage weight limit if you fly with this big case unless you fly business. My primary use for this is to hold all of the odds and ends that I don't need every day. My day to day is now the 1650, and if I'm going out for a day's shoot, I just fill my Lowepro Messenger with a couple of lenses, filters, etc, and keep the remainder of what I might need in the 1560 Pelican case in the car. If I'm heading out for a full-on photo shoot where I'll need all my lights, stands, soft boxes, etc, then I'll take everything I need in one case--the 1634--except for long items like stands and backdrop holders, which in any event come in their own bags. For a full-on shoot, I can get absolutely everything that could go into a Pelican case into this case. Nice and simple. Everything in one place. Consider the lid-organizer too; it adds a boatload more storage. I did not get the lid organizer (yet). Good choice for lots of kit to be stored dry and safe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Transport Safely Being retired military the first name of transport cases to come to mind was Pelican. I am taking a diving and photographic expedition to the Turks and Caicos next week and needed a case that was strong enough to handle the elements (both manmade and natural) that would transport all my gear safely. This case fits the bill perfectly. The divider set that comes with this case is fully adjustable and really allows for customization of all my different sized camera components as well as my scuba gear. I don't have enough good things to say about these cases. All of the ones I have used in the past have shipped back and forth to Iraq and Afghanistan without any issues. I look forward to this one being able to handle everything my others have been through and then some! If you need to transport equipment safely...BUY THIS CASE!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a floating fortress The 1634 case contains adjustable dividers for the bottom of the case, plus a pre-fab zippered case that fits on top. Its a massive case, the box alone weighs around 40 lb. Its great for transport of my gear in my truck, and the case can protect against anything including floods (it floats!). To go by air would incur some significant excess baggage costs or it would have to go as cargo. A great case for a specific use!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pelican Lives Up To Its Name It's great having a place where I can store most,if not all, of my gear. No more looking for things -- it's all there in my Pelican case --- neatly organized with all those pockets. That will be great when I'm on the move. The case is LARGE --- but that's okay. I will definitely grow into it.If you have alot of expensive camera equipment, you can't go wrong with this case.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Larger than expected As usual Pelican cases are awesome. This is my first time using a divider set. This case came with a top tray and bottom dividers. My goal was to have most of my gear in one case. (Putting tripod and heads in bottom, bodies and lenses in top tray) The top tray had a tendency to fall into the bottom, Would be great if there were more support. Heavy and bulky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome (VERY LARGE) case! I ordered this case by mistake, meaning to order the size smaller. Could not return ship for less than $., so kept it to put small lighting package in for the time being. Weight is 41 lbs, so it is a bit of overkill for the lights, but still a great case. Just be sure you need something this large. I will put the next camera in it, when I get there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing case I Purchased this case to hold the majority of my gear. Specifically, to hold 2 ranger RX speeds with 2 A heads, battery packs, 2 extra batteries and every single cord, skyports 2 sb 900's, 600's.. and tons more. I also purchased the lid organizer for this case and very happy i did. the case is huge but well worth it if you want one big case to hold almost everything. This thing is not meant for air travel.. you would have to check it and even then, it may pass the weight limit. I use the case to roll around in dirt and rocky areas to bring all my gear on a location for shots. The padding is great - very glad i made the decision to go with padding - I wouldnt recommend foam because foam can become brittle and tear and turn into little bits and pieces over time. This padding is excellent and has one layer with netting which you can pull out to reveal another layer below. You want something to hold your lighting gear (and stands!)? get this case.
