question

What is the hole on the reflector for? The eight smaller holes I assume are for heat dissipation but I don't know what the larger hole is for or which direction it is supposed to be (top, bottom?).
Asked by: Jason N.
The larger hole in the Impact Floodlight Reflector - 12 (B&H # IMR12) is designed so you may place an umbrella shaft into the umbrella receptacle on the base of the Impact Porcelain Socket with Adjustable Umbrella Mount (500W) B&H # IMSPUM. As such, the hole should be on the bottom when used with an umbrella so it may align with the umbrella receptacle hole on the base of the Impact Porcelain Socket with Adjustable Umbrella Mount. This allows the light to be positioned in the center of the umbrella while still using the reflector to direct light to the umbrella and while controlling light spill. If you are not using an umbrella with the light kit, then the direction the hole is placed does not matter, though it is simply good habit to place the hole toward the bottom of the reflector.

question

I don't know how to assemble this (Impact_FL1000_KI_Daylight_Floodlight_Kit). Is there an instruction sheet or diagram?
Asked by: PAMELA P G.
The Porcelain socket has a ring like a nut that you unscrew. You take that off slide the reflector on and then screw that part back on to keep the reflector securely attached to the socket. This is a link to a photo of the socket with the silver part (nut) you need to unscrew http://bit.ly/1LI32Dz.

question

I'm interested in using an Impact photo cube light tent to photograph items for ebay commerce. I'm confused by the array of lights available. What is the advantage of tungsten? Or should I consider fluorescent or incandescent? And how many watts will I need? I want to use balanced light--the bulbs would be rated as close to 5500 K as possible.
Asked by: Stanley K.
Tungsten light can also be an incandescent light, which uses an Edison type screw base, with wattage up to 500 watts, and a color temperature of 2900-3400 Kelvin on average. The version of the lamp that we carry would have a color temperature of 3200 Kelvin for photographic use. If you are trying to stay closer to nominal daylight which is 5500-5600 Kelvin, then you might want to consider using fluorescent lamps. Additionally, they would be more efficient in terms of life. A good option to consider would be the Impact Fluorescent Cool Light Two Fixture Kit, which would provide plenty of output to obtain a greater depth of field and a daylight balanced color temperature. I am looking for art studio lighting for oil painting. My Northern light is producing too many shadows. It should be cooler lighting @ 5000-5500K. Do you have a stand/lighting set up that will meet my needs with either LED / Fluorescent bulbs? Thank you.
