Rolls DB24 overview

  • 1Description

The DB24 from Rolls is a stereo Direct Interface (DI) that provides dual channel isolation and designed to connect high impedance devices to low impedance. The unit is completely passive, and utilizes proprietary audio transformers for superior sound.

Housed in a heavy-duty steel chassis to provide maximum reliability when used in demanding live sound reinforcement applications, the unit provides a variety of inputs including stereo and mono 1/4", stereo RCA, and stereo 1/8".

The DB24 is an ideal impedance matching device for connecting any unbalanced stereo signal to a balanced system. Consumer audio equipment such as CD players, DVD players, MP3 players, etc., may be easily connected to a professional audio system.

    Rolls DB24 reviews

DB24 - Stereo Direct Interface is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty nice so far Built like a tank. Have not tried every input option yet, but it splits an unbalanced 1/8 stereo output from my ASUS laptop headphone jack to left and right XLR's with no hum or noise whatsoever, with what I perceive to be very good headroom and fidelity. I was pleased to find that the level adjustment pots also worked for the 1/8 TRS stereo input, as those are usually set at -10 dBv and you have to attenuate from the source device. Provided a good, clean boost for the signal. Application: Playing click tracks into Mackie PA from snake XLR inputs; great separation from transformer isolated outputs; no batteries or phantom required. At this price, no soundman should be without one of these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect, but know that output is 600-Ohm mic level! The one negative review is almost certainly critical because the user is running the 600-Ohm microphone level output from this device into an XLR **LINE LEVEL** input. If you do this, then yes, it will provide a very weak signal that will likely be inadequate even with the input volume on powered speakers cranked all the way up. I used this in conjunction with a powered mixer that has unbalanced line main out. In addition to the connected passive speakers, I wanted to run a signal to additional self-powered speakers. I initially made the same mistake as the negative reviewer, but I quickly realized the issue. As soon as I reconnected the output from this device to the powered speakers' mic-level inputs, problem solved. Paired with the correct mic-level pre-amp, it worked PERFECTLY! I ran 100 foot XLR cables with absolutely flawless, noise-free signal transmission. The two signal attenuators are great, too. In the case of my setup, I can use the attenuation on this device--right next to my mixer--to adjust the volume of the powered speakers that wre dozens of feet away. Without this, I could have only adjusted the volume of the powered speakers independent of the passive speakers if I hiked over to each powered speaker to tweak the input volume on the speaker housing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I will use this product to connect my computer to my mixer console. I like this product first of all, its made in the USA secondly its built solid out of medal instead of a plastic housing. Very easy to use and I love that I can adjust the db level with an adjustable pot instead of a push button which only gives you one db level. The price was great too compared to other brands. I would recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Impressed Tried to use it to run from my mixer to my powered studio monitors... Horrible, just horrible. If you want to lose a lot of your signal and have to turn everything up to max to get to low-medium volume out of your speakers, this is the product for you. Returned mine for refund. Plus it was almost $ bux, ridiculous.
