    Sony ECM-44B reviews

ECM-44B Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 120.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Microphone! I have owned and used regularly 5 Sony ECM-77 Lavalier Mics since 1984. They all still work but the cords have taken a beating. I was looking for a less costly replacement. The ECM-44 is perfect. The mic head is slightly larger than the ECM-77 but certainly not too big. The sound quality appears to be equal, and the cord is possibly a little heavier duty. Also, the cord is some 10 feet long allowing the power supply to easily rest on the floor without putting any strain on the mic. It is capable of using phantom power or a single AA Battery in the cord mounted power supply. I am very happy with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great mic as always I have been using the Sony ECM-44B in my studio work for years. It has always had great fidelity and response. If you use these just watch out for two things. One, there is no ON/OFF switch so you need to remove the battery to keep it from discharging when not in use. Many engineers will put the battery in backward to store it but the case has a place for a battery so your don't have to. Two, the weak spot on this mic is the cable coming out of the battery case. Eventually it always seems to start to short out and it would cost more to fix than replace. At least for me. But I still like them a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mic I've been shooting litigation videos for 20 years and use these mic's everyday. They work great very durable I've had to replace several but not the mic's fault After many many years of daily use the cable has failed at the mic capsul and several have developed a cable short where they will sometimes make excessive noise but people roll over them with chairs step on them walk off with them still attached and they stand up to the abuse. I have forgotten to replace the battery since I use on phantom power and they have leaked and ruined the power connections. But for the price it's an unsurpassed value sound great and durable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional mic, go with cardioid instea I work at a journalism school and we have about a dozen of these. And let me just say: they get used and abused! They go all around the world when students film their documentaries, and they really hold up to the elements. They are much more reliable than wireless. I would recommend this, but also a cardioid model, because the omni-directional just captures too much ambient sound. The quality is great in quiet situations, but in noisy places the voice can get lost. Cardioid lavs tend to be really expensive though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional quality, I love this mic! I ultimately chose this microphone over the ECM-77B because I was hoping that for a cheaper price, it would still yield comparable quality audio. I've never used an ECM-77B, but I can safely say that the quality of this lavalier is exceptional.I can record voice over in my own home, take out a bit of the natural hum/room tone with an EQ effect or noise removal program like Audacity, and it sounds like I recorded it in a soundproof room. I had to shoot a person speaking in a location that was a noisy nightmare. It was right next to an airport, surrounded by busy streets, and strong winds were blowing that day, yet my audio still came out sounding clear.I absolutely love this microphone. Just be sure to always check your batteries before using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Geat overall Lavalier mic We have been using the Sony ECM44B lavalier mics for over 25 years in both studio and on-location productions. They last a long time, and are easy on the budget. We have periodically used other lavalier mics, but have never found any that work as well as the these for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great! I bought this so I could have a low profile microphone close to my subjects mouth. We have 4 of these in our video program, and they still work after 10 years of abuse from our students. I plan to use it for recording 2 camera interviews with double system sound. The sound quality is very close to what either the Zoom H4n or my Tascam DR-40 can record with their onboard microphones. My friend has 2 of these for his video business, he says they last ten years with proper care. It is obviously not a super high end microphone, but it's not junk either, I think it will be just right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value This microphone has excellent clarity in many positions and scenarios. I had to film a dozen quick interviews in the middle of a loud and lively conference and I'm very satisfied with the results. Many people had clothing that wasn't ideal for a lapel mic so in most cases it wasn't pointing in the best direction but I still got a clear and bright signal. It does an excellent job of picking up the person's voice and minimizing background noise. It also doesn't sound like most cheap microphones i.e. it's not boomy or muddy and suffers from no interference. I record with a Zoom H4n and there's no noticeable increase in the noise floor that is obviously present in the Zoom. The cable is quite long but is nothing negative; it's manageable. The microphone is a decent size. With the windscreen it's the epitome of conspicuous. I have no complaints with this microphone.
