Plastic tightened stripped

Unfortunately, while the rest of it is metal, the ratcheting fastener is made of plastic, and has stripped after only two years of use. Why they can't make that part with metal, I have no idea.

I bought one, then I bought two more

Almost 5 stars, a night and day difference to cheaper units from other manufacturers, very sturdy and able to hold a heavy load. I use this to mount LED lights in combination with umbrellas. There are a couple of things that could be better however: 1) The plastic lever for tightening the unit feels a little flimsy and could have been made of metal, or even just a little thicker plastic design. I'm worried that with UV exposure it may weaken and crack. 2) The little brass accessories don't really work for me and I had to buy extra 5/8 studs - at the high price point they could have included several different types accessories. Despite that, I got two more because they do what I need them to do.

question

Does this lock only by friction/tension, or, does it also have ratcheting teeth (similar to Westcott and Kupo tilt umbrella brackets)? On a 50degree tilt angle, can it securely lock while holding an extension arm with a 46 umbrella and four Nikon SB910 speedlights?
Asked by: Earle K Del R.
Friction only. I would NOT recommend loading it with that much gear. Use a heavier boom arm and a grip head.
