    LensCoat LCHSMBK reviews

Hoodie Lens Hood Cover (Small, Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, sweet and works Bought this and the next size up after seeing them on another photo blog. It was more of a why not give them a try purchase, but I'm glad I did. Leave the protective hard insert in and you have as much protection as using the hard lens cap. Take out the insert and you have front end coverage and solve the problem of what to do with your lens cap, since you can fold and stuff the hoodie anywhere. I did put a small hook and loop circle, just the hook part, on my lens hoods to insure the cover didn't just pop off, but that was more of a precaution than a necessity. I will be ordering a couple more to fit the rest of my lens and will be leaving the hard lens caps in my old camera stuff junk drawer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work on Canon 100-400 Zoom Though the lens diameter on my Canon 100-400 zoom is right in the middle of promoted range of this hoodie, and the fit over the barrel of the lens was fine, this item will not stay on the lens under the slightest tug...like pulling it across the seat of the car or removing it from a camera bag. The problem seems to one of two things...either the neoprene doesn't adhere to the smooth surface of the lens barrel, or the hoodie is just too short. Actually, I think it's a combination of both these things. Anyway, now I'm stuck with it because it would cost nearly as much to ship it back to B&H as it cost to purchase it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Snug cover! I first tried this lens coat without my lens hood attached to the lens and it was really loose. I realize it was intended for use with the lens hood on the lens and now that I'm using it with that attached, it is really snug so it lives up to its intended use. I like the elasticity which is still firm and I hope it stays that way throughout the many times I will remove and replace it over my lens. I currently have a 18-200 Nikkor lens that I'm using it on which is 72mm lens and I especially like the extra protection for the lens face in the end of the cover. So far I'm very satisfied.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sizing difficulties I bought this on the recommendation of another reviewer who found the Tokina 16-28 lens hood problematic. Perhaps Tokina has recently upgraded because mine is all that one could wish. In any case, the specs on this hood state 3.25-3.75. It is nearly impossible to slide over the 3.75 of the 16-28 and difficult over the 3.25 of the Nikon 28-300. As hard as it is to get on, it is all too easy to get off because the fabric is rather slippery and the Hoodie would almost certainly be quickly lost if you tried to use it as a subsitute for the Tokina lens hood which is quite secure and easy to remove and replace. In addition, the neoprene cushion is cut rather small so that if the lens were dropped and landed on the front edge there would be little to cushion the impact. All in all I can see little use in this rather overpriced accessory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product Highly useful, easier to use on a non-threaded filter than a traditional lens cap. Easy to fit and remove. Can be used as simple lens cap directly over lens or over lens hood. Could be a bit deeper to reach further over lens barrel if used without lens hood

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An Inexpensive Winner I'm very protective of my lens elements when shooting in the field. I've made it a practice to replace the lens cap during breaks in shooting longer than 5-10 minutes. Sometimes I'd forget, after a while, if the cap were on or off. Since I usually can't confirm this visually with the lens hood on, I'd reach around the front and gently tap - resulting in a nice fingerprint smudge on my UV filter if the cap was off. No more. I replaced all of my traditional lens caps with LensCoat Hoodies. They protect very well, they are easy to install/remove, and best of all for me, it's completely obvious now whether the lens is covered or not. No more cleaning smudges off of lenses in the field (and possibly missing shots in the process.) I'd give a fifth star if LensCoat would add a tether or quick-release neck strap for these so I don't have to stuff them in my bag or a pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hood Cover Great hood cover for the price. The cap portion has a stiff (removable) disc to give it more structure which is a great improvement over similar neoprene covers that don't have any structure as it provides additional protection if something hits or rests against the front of the cover. Although, it is meant to be able to be used without a lens cap, I would still recommend a lens cap if you want to avoid getting more dust on the lens. Dust can still get on your lens easily while removing/installing the cover and while it is covered.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Size does not fit 70-200 f4L Lens Hood I recently purchased the small and large Lens Hood Covers for the 70-200 f4L and the 300 f2.8L IS lenses. The large hood fits great over the lens hood, but the small hood cover does not fir the lens hood on the 70-200. even though this is the one on the recommended accessory list.
