question

Since purchasing this lens, though she is quite heavy, would you have chosen the 500mm instead-less weight same quality a little less reaching capabilities or reach farther and go for the 800mm tripod mounted lens build up your muscles and gain more in the long run? If cost was not an issue respectfully.

NO,THE 600mm VR IS THE BEST FOR BIRDING!!! BEST COMPROMISE!!! AN 800mm 5.6cost's $18,000 DOLLARS!!! A 600mm f/4 WORKS FOR HANDHELD FLIGHT SHOOTING,IN APINCH,BUT IS FINE ON A MONOPOD!!! AND ON A GIMBAL HEAD WITH THE TC-14-E-II orIII,BECOMES AN 840mm f/5.6 THAT WILL OUTSHOOT ANYTHING ELSE FOR THE PRICE!!!

question

I'm ready to purchase, but would like to know what's the warranty on the lens, and who covers it? Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
The USA lens would come with Nikon USAs warranty, which would be a 5-year warranty (first year international, remaining four years USA only). The Imported lens would come with a one-year warranty from B&H.

question

Besides the difference in weight, would the FL version of this lens be any better than the VR ? Optics would be my only comparison. A tad difference in AF response may not matter much to me.
Asked by: Anonymous
Be careful, BOTH versions have VR. The newest version has updated optics and is lighter. It is the best of both worlds. That is why Nikon discontinued the older version.

question

What is the difference between this lens and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens, other than around a $4000 price difference?
Asked by: Michael
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4G ED VR listed above was originally released in 2007. The new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lens, released last year in 2015, uses Nikon's latest technology providing enhanced autofocus tracking and improved optical performance, with fluorite lens elements which help in both reducing chromatic aberration and decreasing the weight of the lens. The new lens weighs 8.3 lbs (as opposed to the 11.5 lbs of the lens you list above, almost 3 lbs lighter, which will be advantageous for long sports games or wildlife shooting). The new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens also has an electromagnetic diaphragm to assist in maintaining consistent exposures when shooting fast action and using continuous burst shooting.
