TASCAM GigaStudio 4 - Virtual Sampling Workstation
Key Features
  • Sample Instruments Playback
  • ReWire
  • Windows XP/Vista
GigaStudio 4 from Tascam is a stand-alone Windows application that uses hard disk streaming to play back extremely realistic sampled instruments. Building on the features of GigaStudio 3, the software sampler supports 64-bit operating systems like Windows XP 64 and Vista 64, allowing users to access up to 128 gigabytes of RAM for loading massive sample libraries and compositional templates.

Additional improvements include the ability to host VSTi and GVI virtual instruments alongside GigaStudio instrument libraries. A QuickSound database tool provides help with locating the exact sounds from the very large collection of samples and instruments. Additions to the QuickEdit interface and many user interface improvements are also provided.

Unlimited polyphony is still provided as well as 128 MIDI channels with 24-bit/96kHz resolution. The iMIDI rule programming includes legato mode, round-robin, alternation, portamento, dynamic expression filters and more to add realism to sampled performances. With the included effects, GigaStudio 4 allows provides more than ever the resources to create anything from a simple pop tune to an advanced, fully-orchestrated film score.

Hard Disc Streaming
Desktop sampler with unlimited polyphony (hardware dependent) utilizing direct-from-disc streaming for enhanced sample realism.
ReWire
Supports ReWire routing into sequencing/recording applications such as Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar and Pro Tools. MIDI from the DAW is routed to GigaStudio. ReWire allows audio generated from GigaStudio to be sent into the DAW application where it automatically shows up on faders within the DAW's mixer section.
VI Hosting
Hosts VSTi and GVI virtual instruments, loading or stacking instruments alongside GigaStudio instrument libraries. When hosted in GigaStudio 4, virtual instruments based on Tascam's GVI gain the advantages of kernel-level processing, offering lower latency than other host applications.
VST Plug-In Hosting
GigaStudio 3.0 now includes VST plug-in support, so the user can use their favorite effects plug-ins to process sounds within the DSP Station window. For instance, one could Insert a vintage compressor plug-in on a snare drum, a filter plug-in on a string line and tube amp distortion on a bass track.
DSP Station
The mixer section has been expanded to 128 channels, 32 group faders and features an expanded processing section which includes a 4-band EQ and compressor on each channel.
GigaPulse SP
GigaPulse employs convolution to create incredibly realistic reverb, microphone modeling and instrument resonance simulation. Convolution uses an actual recording as the basis for signal processing, essentially sampling the sound of a room. For example, the sound of a concert hall is recorded with a unique set of tones. This "impulse" recording can then be imported into GigaPulse Pro (the encoding processor included with GS3 Orchestra) where the concert hall impulse can be included/encoded into a sampled instrument or a .gig file. When this instrument is loaded into GS3, GigaPulse SP, the convolution player included with all version of GS3, reveals itself and the instrument loads with the effect automatically inserted.
Quick Edit Control
Parameters such as tuning, envelopes, filters, attenuation and sample offset are at one's fingertips, in real-time, without having to go into the instrument editor.
Unlimited Instrument Stacking
As many instruments as desired can be loaded on a single MIDI channel. Control is available over each of the stacked instruments parameters and each stacked instrument can be routed to its own audio channel.
Capacity
Up to 512GB - 1/2 a terabyte - of samples supported. Allows acces up to 128GB of RAM with under applicable operating systems
