Hard to believe this is actually muslin -- does not feel like any other muslin I've handled. It's cheap, and it does the job, but if quality is important I would look elsewhere.

Thinner And A Little Shorter Than Advertised

I Bought This Backdrop To Replace One That Was Developing Holes And Tears From Use. It's A Lot Thinner Than My Old One, And Also About A Foot And A Half Shorter, Which Is Surprising Since They Are Both Supposed To Be 12 Feet Long. I Also Was Surprised To Find That Gaffers Tape Doesn't Stick To It Nearly As Well As My Old One. (I Tape It To Bleachers In School Gyms For Photo Shoots Instead Of Using Stands And Tripods.) I Believe It Will Work Just Fine, And To Be Fair I Did Choose The Less Expensive Option, So The Quality Probably Matches The Price.

I would not. You might be able to do so in a large oversized dryer at a laundrymat. I would use a steam wand to release wrinkles.

If I want to use this with narrower width stands,for ex. 5ft-7ft, rather than 10ft, can this fabric work?

How well does it block light? Obviously it ...

How well does it block light? Obviously it doesn't block 100% of light coming through, but is it effective enough to use as a window covering on location?

The Impact Muslin Background (Black, 10 x 12') would not be ideal for covering a window to block light. You would be much better using duvetyne like the TRP WORLDWIDE Duvetyne / Commando Cloth (8 x 8'), B&H # TRS8, MFR # S8.

Which is heavier, Impact or Backdrop Alley?

The weight difference is very minimal between the two backdrops, Backdrop Alley is .10 of an ounce, heavier than Impact. Both are nice backdrops.
