Impact BGS-1012-G Overview

The 10 x 12' light gray Solid Muslin Background from Impact is made from a high-quality 100% cotton material. Suitable for video or still photography, the fabric is one-piece so there's never a concern of a seam showing in the shot.

The background has a 3" rod pocket and five eyelets on the top to make hanging it from your background system a breeze. The material is manufactured to help absorb light and assist in the elimination of any reflections. If the fabric becomes soiled, it is machine washable on a gentle cycle using a mild detergent. Wash it separately in cold water.

Color tone not quite as desired

Nothing against the muslin background itself - it just ended up being too warm tone-wise when I was looking for a backdrop with a cooler tone. Ultimately, I was trying to find a muslin that would look good butted up against Savage background paper Focus Gray #60 - however this muslin is a warm gray (see attached pic) - so I ended up returning it.

A quality background that is just the right shade for both black and white and color portraits etc. It responds very well to lighting with colored gels.

It would depend on how much light is hitting the background and how far the subject is in relation to the background.

Which is heavier, Impact or Backdrop Alley?

While the manufacturers do not list the weight of the backgrounds, both are manufactured from muslin, and the Impact 10x12' Muslin Background has a package weight of 4 lbs, while the Backdrop Alley 10x12' Muslin Background has a package weight of 3.9 lbs. As the package weight of the two items are almost identical and they are made from the same material, I would guess the actual weight of the two items are also similar (or not different enough to be noticeable).

Hi, When I got it it came in a little plastic bag that was about the size of your normal laptop computer. It will definitely fit in a carry-on.

Is this backdrop about 20% gray?

Perhaps. I don't know how to measure it. It was too light and it was difficult to remove the wrinkles so I returned it. When exposed on video, the background was definitely not white, but it was less than 50% grey.
