    Celestron C70 Reviews

C70 Mini Mak 2.7"/70mm Maksutov-Cassegrain Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this product. This product exceeded my expectations. I recently bought a house overlooking the Pacific Ocean and wanted a spotting scope for viewing passing ships. I originally wanted the C90 but it was back ordered and I ordered the C70 instead. This scope is amazing for the price. The zoom is a nice feature not found in the C90. And the Cassegrain design shortens the scope so that it's more stable than a refractor. The optics are very good--no chromatic abberation that I can see--and the limiting factor in viewing is the atmospheric heat waves over two miles. Great scope--very portable--and for the price of a few large pizzas...I'm satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid buy Very solid buy for the money. Tried it at 50 and 100 yards on a clear and sunny day. Very clear picture on lowest magnification (25x) at 50 yards, paper target hits from 223 are clearly visible. Clear picture on middle magnification (50x) at 100 yards, paper target hits from 223 are clearly visible. The tripod is shaky but it does not bother me at all. Eye relief is large enough so that you do not touch the scope while looking through it. You get what you pay for and this item has a great price to value ratio. It comes with screw on metal cover for eye piece and rubber cover for the lens, as well as soft scope case. Tripod does not fit into the soft case included, only scope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light in weight and versatile The C70 was purchased as a grab and go scope to be used when I didn't want to pull out my 102 mm mak or 80 mm short tube. Both are high quality scopes but heavy. The C70 weighs 2 lbs. and I mount it on a light weight photo tripod. Total package less than 5 lbs. Besides the weight, the C70 comes with a 1.25 eyepiece adapter which allows me to use my assorted eyepieces. The provided zoom eyepiece is adequate but I have found that using a higher quality eye piece makes this little scope shine. My main use is for wildlife and general observation. Since my night sky is light polluted, observation has been limited to the moon and brighter planets. The included zoom eyepiece works well especially up to 50X.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the Price I use the scope for shooting and bird watching. I liked the price and have purchased Celestron products in the past. I was slightly disappointed in the resolution at higher power settings (too dark). Scope for shooting is very good at 25 yards, good at 50 yards, and fair at 100 yards. Birds watching is good at all powers. The tripod; however, is too wobbly to use at high power settings. Although, I liked the slow motion controls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp and clear images, great value I use this as a spotting scope for ISSF pistol target shooting (bullseye for Americans). The 25x magnification allows me to see all of the target (inside the 1 ring), but not the whole sheet. It allows close focusing too (around 6m), so should work for 10m air pistol too (haven't had a chance to try it). I shoot at night under lights (outdoor range), and the scope is more than bright enough to see 22LR holes on black. Much better than the other scope people have, and the eye relief is good since we wear safety glasses here. It also works well for astronomy. Can see the bands on Jupiter in the city, and also four Galilean moons. I wasn't expecting much at 75X, but its actually quite good. The tripod does wobble a bit, but the fine adjustment knobs work well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible bargain!!! The Celestron C70 is an incredible bargain. The cheap spotting scope I have is NOT sharp at high powers. The C70 is. The only improvement I would ask for is lower gearing for its focusing.Target shooters, from what I can find on the Internet, evidently don't know about the C70. Celestron is making a HUGE mistake by not advertising its qualities in the NRA's American Rifleman magazine. C70s would sell like hotcakes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Bang for the Buck You would be hard pressed to find anything even close to this for this price. I have seen spotting scopes for three times the price that did not perform as well. The zoom eyepiece is very good at lower magnifications but the ability to use standard eyepieces really make this the great deal that it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive for the price Very impressive little scope. No, it will not compare to a higher priced scope naturally, but for the price you pay, you are getting a fantastic little performer. Sharp optics, nicely built and the ability to use other eyepieces. The mini-tripod is plastic, and it do the job, but I am going to use a metal mount I already own. Other than that, its an awesome bargain.
