This lens delivers an ideal mix of sharpness, nice mid-tones, and the Zeiss characteristic '3D-pop” effect. It performs excellently in black and white images as well! Compact and well-made, with a 35mm focal length, it’s perfect for documentary photography projects.

For some reason, this was not being used much (for no good reason). I have the Aspherical 40 V'lander 1.2 and that was on my M6 most of the time. I started using my Hexar again and put the ZM 35 on it and it's been fantastic. I mainly do film duties with it but it's one of the optics that clicks on my Fuji bodies (not always the case with film-world lenses). It can feel a bit small if you have big meat hooks but I became comfortable with it quickly. Others mentioned that they questioned the mechanical aspects but my example is flawless and similar feeling to my Leica glass in almost every way. Now that I'm using it more, I'm appreciating how incredibly sharp it is but it also has a pleasant bokeh.

Should I get the biogin 35mm f2.8, or Summarit 35mm f2.4 for my leica m240?
Asked by: Louis
Personally I would go with the Biogin just due to the fact I like the slightly higher contrast and reduced flare ability.

question

We know that the filter size for this lens is 43mm. But what is the exact size we should take into consideration when buying a lens hood for this lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
The lens hood bayonet is outside the filter thread. In fact, I can easily put the notorious Zeiss lenscap on with the filter and hood mounted; the hood never leaves the lens.

question

Debating between this Zeiss 35mm and the Voightlander 21mm 1.8 Ultron, any comparisons and which one is better?
Asked by: Anonymous
First off, you aren't comparing comparable lenses, assuming you are using this for a Leica rangefinder. But these are two different focal lengths and totally different apertures so the type of images created will differ drastically. The 21mm will require an external viewfinder if used on a Leica for framing your shot with a full scene. The 35mm will not. The 21mm is an ultra wide lens, and unless you are shooting grand vistas, it will feel extremely wide for every day street photography. I have a Leica 21mm and it is WIDE! The 35mm is the standard street photography focal length, you should have one in your bag before the 21mm if that is your photo style/ subject matter. The 21mm 1.8 will help you for night shooting, but that's about it.Zeiss is technically a better quality lens, but other than price, quality tends to be based more on your shooting style and subject matter. I love the Zeiss 35mm. It is a versatile everyday lens. I wish I got the f2 instead of the 2.8 for an extra stop, but the image quality is fantastic for the price compared to a Leica 35mm.Figure out your subject matter first, and buy the focal lengths that apply to it first, based on your budget.

question

Has anyone tried this lens on a Sony A6000? If so, any problems?
Asked by: Doug W.
I found it a bit difficult to use the focus. Its very difficult to see when the image is in focus so I decided to use the Sony lens instead.
