    Manfrotto 165MV reviews

    165MV On-Ground Tripod Spreader is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Must have for tripods This makes it a lot easier to break down my tripod! Just stick your foot underneath, and lift up! Pulls the legs in just great. Also great for when I raise my tripod very high, as I can spread the legs to add more stability! Yeah, I wish it wasn't plastic, but what can ya do. I've also found that after I have extended the spreaders all the way, trying to slide them back in can be a bit challenging. I guess they get caught on some plastic bits when fully extended. Sometimes a good kick works, sometimes it doesn't. The spreader also has marks/lines on it, so that you can spread each side to the same length. Nice feature!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality for price This spreader is great for switching between photo and video heads/work. My only beef is whilst on the tripod the legs do not fold in fully and so it is bulky at the bottom, I have to remove it from the tripod to travel with it, also it makes the tripod much heavier, which is a good thing for stability, also when you lift your tripod to reposition the spreader falls downwards in the middle! which is a pain, actually that's 3 beefs! but still I'll keep mine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits Vinten Just got Vinten 3821-3 tripod legs, and this was a great alternative to Vinten's spreaders - it fits just right. (Obviously it doesn't fit ANY Vinten, but it worked on that model.) I already have a 165MV on my old Manfrotto 501 tripod so I was familiar with the spreader - hasn't broken after years of use, and sure it's not the world's best, but it does what it does just fine at great value. The spreader, collapsed and mounted on the legs, was too wide to fit in our Manfrotto MBAG100PN bag. However you can easily twist the spreader ends into a spear shape, which minimizes the footprint. As any floor spreader, it's mainly for interiors and hard surfaces. If you're out in the dirt or at the beach you use a mid-level spreader or the spiked feet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great option for extra stability Bought this as an alternative to a mid-level spreader. While the mid-level is good for uneven surfaces, in certain situations it just allows for too much spread. In tight spaces with flat floors, the on-ground spreader gives GREAT stability and a smaller footprint at higher heights. Wish this rubber, though, hence only 4 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alternative to mid-spreader The ground spreader is easier and faster to breakdown and set up than the mid spreader. It adds more stability to the tripod. However, it is made from plastic and I have to be a bit careful at times.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good under normal/Not Great For Cold Only good for simple, non active shoots. Cheap plastic broke in Alaska immediately. No way of repairing either. I had to throw the old one away!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! Essential for quick setup and breakdown. Our last one broke after three years of constant use, so I'd say its pretty durable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage I'm a Television News Stringer. With that said I have to say this spreader is garbage after 6 months of use mine broke, the plastic the plastic broke in half where one of the spreader meets in the middle. This is the second thing from manfrotto to break I'm beginning to think their products are over priced garbage.
