Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 Overview

Vortex is dedicated to the development and production of unique optics with features that allow you to see the world more clearly. Their commitment to supporting efforts in the important areas of land conservation, wildlife and field habitat keep them in tune with the environment and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.

The Vortex 3-9x40 Diamondback Riflescope is built to endure, perform, and excel. Its one-piece center-tube design is carefully constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum, and fitted with a precision adjustment system that allows for a generous amount of correction. The optical system is fully multicoated for a fine line of sight, and the entire assembly is then purged with argon gas for flawless all-weather performance.

The variable mid-range magnification of a 3-9x40 scope is extremely flexible; the balance of power against the efficient 40mm objective offers hunters excellent twilight performance with a comfortable sight picture in open fields and dense woods.

To use a riflescope with your firearm, you'll need a mounting base and mounting rings in addition to the scope itself. Bases attach to your firearm and rings attach to your scope. By affixing the scope mounted rings to the rifle mounted base you create a reliable, accurate, and secure sighting system. Proper spacing of the rings, as well as the ring height should be considered to ensure a proper line of sight can be established. This will maximize the value of your investment, and enhance your shooting experience. It should be noted that in many mounting applications, a professional gunsmith's skills will be needed for proper installation.

Great Eastern Whitetail hunting scope!!!

I initially bought this scope for my muzzleloader, thinking, well, this will work just fine for my limited use during muzzleloader season. Once I started to use it more and more, I really liked it; the glass is surprisingly good for the price point. You are not going to mistake it for a VX5 HD or Trijicon ( which I have both of those ), but I would rank the glass quality as really good, especially for the price. The weight is perfect, and the field of view is better than any other 3x9 made today!!! The only compromise with that is the eye relief; it's not bad, but typically I'm used to about "3. 5 and this scope is about "3. 3. I just moved the scope back a touch more and problem solved. I have bought several of these scopes since then, and I'm putting them on all my hunting rifles. I have no problems hitting targets out at 300 yards, and I'm sure it would be fine at 400, but I have not had a chance to test that. At 300, the drops are perfect for my . 243 and . 308. DO NOT dismiss this scope because of the price; I almost did. It is a great general-purpose hunting scope inside of about 300 yards.

Could a scope like this one be used as a hand-held scope for bird watching? Do all these scopes have a crosshair (which would interfere with a bird image)?
Asked by: John
The Vortex 3-9x40 Diamondback Riflescope can be used for birdwatching, but it has a crosshair reticle that can be distracting for some. A better option is a spotting scope or a monocular like the Bushnell 10x42 Legend Ultra HD Monocular (Black), BH #BU10X42LUHMB (https://bhpho.to/3leWW6w).
