Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity - Microphone/Line Preamplifier
Key Features
  • Single Channel
  • Dual-Path
  • Phase-Aligned Tone-Blending
  • Hi-Z Instrument DI
The 710 Twin-Finity from Universal Audio is a single channel, dual path microphone preamplifier that includes an instrument direct inject (DI) input. The dual path design combines the "warmth" of a high-voltage vacuum tube design with the clarity of a solid-state circuit. A blend control allows the dialing-in of either circuit or a combination of both in varying degrees.

The tube circuit utilizes a 310V single ended, Class-A triode tube stage, which is phased aligned with a solid-state gain stage. Both stages are fed from a variable gain solid-state transimpedance input amplifier, and are summed to a single output according to the setting of the blend knob. Along with the variable input and output controls, this design allows for an almost infinite range of tones to be dialed-in.

The discrete JFET DI input circuit can handle virtually any electric instrument, including guitars and basses with both active and passive pickups. The VU meter can switch between displaying standard output levels and a "Drive" mode that allows for seeing how hard the input stage is being driven. Phantom power, low pass filter and a polarity flip switch add full functionality to a versatile preamplifier.

Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity Reviews

Overpriced 3 knob meter

I bought one used for my 1st album out of a recommendation from a sales rep. There's 1 tube in this unit and very little difference between the solid state and tube. You can barely notice it. I sold it afterwards. So for my second album, I bought one brand new because I just heard too many good things about it. I tested it against the pre's in my Focusrite Forte and the Forte was cleaner and warmer. I sent the new unit back. For this price, make sure you test other pre's against it. You'll find better results at half the price and size. This unit should be half the price but it has an UA stamp on it which is what you're paying for. If you have nothing else, this is a good unit but way overpriced. Don't buy the name or the hype that goes along with it. Trust your ears.

Perfect!

I am speaker and singer. This preamplifier is the best for my jobs. My homestudio stayed perfect. Hot sound!
