Unfortunately, I am not quite sure with which item you would be using the lithium battery as a substitute, as you did not list the brand/model of the item in which you are interested in using lithium batteries in your inquiry. As such, the best answer I may provide is it would depend on the specific device in question. I would recommend either checking your device's instruction manual or contact the manufacturer to inquire if your device may use lithium batteries. While the above Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA Batteries are physically the same AA size as standard LR6 AA alkaline batteries and rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, some devices cannot use lithium batteries, and lithium batteries may not be recommended for certain devices due to the heat they produce during usage. Many digital cameras and flashes state in their instruction manuals not to use lithium batteries, though some do state it is okay. As your answer is device-specific and no device was listed, as previously stated, I can only recommend to check your device's instruction manual or contact the manufacturer with your model number for assistance with your inquiry.

Read your instructions. Some items such as many camera flash units say to not use Lithium batteries. Make sure your instruction do not prohibit, while some cameras say to not use Ni-Cad. If you must use alkaline batteries, try Duracell Procell. They are very good and often less expensive when purchased in bulk to many others.

Isn't carbon battery the old standard one? In any case, the lithium replaces any AA battery you can find on the market. I use it to power underwater flash unit. It is expensive but last for a long time. I heard that many photographers use it to power their flash units.
