Good developer, not perfect

I love that this product line is mindful of protecting our environment and I buy it primarily for that reason. I've learned to work with it and it gets the job done. I do sometimes have issues with it's consistency.

Lasts and Lasts

This fixer is fantastic. It can be a little smelly when mixing from the concentrate, but once mixed, there's very little smell. I like that it is a more environmentally- (and people-) friendly product. And it has stamina! I've developed many, many rolls of B&W film and used the same solution for over a year. My last batch finally had crystals starting to form in the solution. I remixed when that happened since I figured it was high time for it, but my understanding is that even with the crystals starting to form, you can strain the solution and keep on using it. Highly recommended.

How long will opened chemistry last?
Asked by: celia l.
Ambient conditions will play a big roll in this. In extremely hot conditions, where oxidation is fast, you might be looking at 6 months. That being said, one should typically get about two years.

after you open the container how long would the unmixed concentrate last?
Asked by: Rado
Unopened Eco Pro Clearfix Neutral Rapid Fixer should be kept in cool, dark conditions. The products have a virtually indefinite shelf life. Once opened, the concentrate should be kept in tightly closed glass, PET(PETE) or HDPE containers, and used within twelve months. For best results in small scale darkrooms, a large opened bottle should be divided into several small glass or polyethylene bottles filled to the top to minimize exposure to air.

Can you reuse this fixer like you can with ilford?
Asked by: Nicholas
Not really suggest but you can extend the life of fixer for a year or longer after opening the bottle, pour the solution into smaller sealed bottles and just use test strips to check on chemistry.

Can this fixer be disposed of by pouring it down the drain? Or would it be seen as a risk for the environment to do so?
Asked by: Ella
Preferred options for disposal are to send to licensed reclaimers, or to permitted incinerators. Any disposal practice must be in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Do not dump into sewers, ground, or any body of water.

question

What is the container? Hard container or collapsible? With or without spigot?
Asked by: Ginette C.
Collapsible containers are made of permeable materials that let oxygen in. I wouldn't recommend them for darkroom environments.

Your description says mix 1:3 for fastest fixing. I thought it was 1:4. Which is correct?

Clearfix Neutral Fixer from Ecopro (formerly Silvergrain) may be mixed at 1 + 4 dilution for film, RC paper or FB paper, or mixed at 1 + 7 for use with RC paper only.
