    Zoom RC4 reviews

    RC4 Remote Control for H4n and H4n Pro 4 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 89.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from An essential Zoom H4n accessory The remote control is essential if you plan to position the Zoom H4n where it would be hard to operate it.Once you have set your basic controls with the help of the unit's readout (quality and record levels), you can operate basic functions from the remote. It comes with a 6 foot cord and small LEDs for the REC and INPUT functions, confirming which inputs are in use and that you are indeed recording. The addition of a 10 foot extension is welcomed. In the minus side: the cables feel a bit thin and possibly prone to break if stressed. At $ it is a good deal, but if they put their minds to it, I can easily see a wireless version with an small LED screen to make it a truly versatile remote.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish the buttons had feedback The buttons are soft touch with no click or feedback' to feel when hitting the functions so you are not sure if you're hitting them but none the less, I like this remote. I got this with the H4n to mount to the battery pack of my Canon Vixia HF-S100 as the H4n is mounted with screen facing the sky. With the remote mounted to the battery pack, I can see if I'm clipping by glancing at the on board LED lights and quickly make adjustments. The cable is quite thin which has me guessing how long it will last. The cable is quite long at 6 foot...almost overly long since they also include an extension cable with the H4n. Overall, it's a good product and almost a must have for some setups.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very useful for a zoom h4n It is very useful to have a remote for your field recorder. You don't have to operate your buttons directly on your recorder but using the remote. And when the recorder is on a boom pole or in a difficult position to access it, having a remote is mandatory. Also it is very good for podcasts and audio journal. The pause recording functionality of the zoom H4n combining with the ability to control it by remote it was a very solid selling point for me to buy zoom H4n and the Rc4 remote. My cons: The remote by itself is well build but the wire is very thin and weak. The point of failure is where the wire is inserted into the remote. In my opinion the remote should have a jack conector and in the case of breaking the wire you can easily replace it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RC4 Remote A very nice addition to have for my H4n. I took it out of the box and was using it for a project that night. It was really great to be able to make adjustments as needed without having to touch the Zoom itself even if the recorder is right next to me. The ample amount of cable that comes with it will be great for some upcoming shoots if I put the Zoom on a boom or need to use it in a location that is away from the camera. It would be nice to have some button feedback but I am already use to the feel of it and it's not that big of a deal. It has become a must-have for my recordings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wireless would a plus but this remote could be considered essential for some of the H4n's uses. The device brings control of major functions on the recorder out to a credit card sized (thicker,to be sure) keypad. The pad also has very useful led indicators of unit status (recording, standby, etc). While handy for playback, it eliminates bump noise introduced by fumbling for controls during recording. This could be the difference between a clean recording, and the need for extra editing. -should be part of original recorder package. -connection wire is small! and has even smaller wires inside. Time will tell how tough the wire and connectors are, and for that matter, the pad itself. -pad has 6ft wire, but comes with 12ft extension. great, since I'm not certain this cable is readily available aftermarket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An excellent investment The H4n Remote is an excellent accessory if you are trying to produce CD quality results. It virtually eliminates key click noises associated with and resulting from using the on-board mics. The built-in H4n mics are extremely sensitive (proportionately so as higher mic level settings are used) and respond to any vibrations coming from touching the unit (i.e. adjusting Record or Volume levels). Make sure that you keep the remote cable itself from rubbing against or bumping the H4n or mic stand (if using one) while recording as that will also cause undesirable noise. I therefore tape the cable to the mic stand to preclude bumps. If a few extraneous noises are not an issue, then this is definitely not a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smoother and quieter recording The remote eliminates bump and boom noises when first starting the recording. Also controls microphone selection choices including the built-in mics to the external 1 and 2 microphones. Start, stop, pause, play and record; FF and RW; headphone volume and recording volume control all on this little unit. Power is drawn from the recorder, so no battery issues. IMO a must have accessory for cleaner and quieter starts and basic recording/playback control.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best in price range This is my second one.Used mainly as audio recorder for DSRL shooting. Extensive field use in rough environments and has yet to fail me. One of the best recorders up to the $450 range. Noise begins to be a problem in quite spaces as record level reaches 50 (half) with onboard mics; however, on average the sound is very good. Lots of noise when using effects at 50%+ levels on onboard mics but that really isn't the purpose of this unit. Easy menus and a number of very useful features. Good battery life. All considered I highly recommend the zoom H4n.
