Cavision 5.65 x 5.65" Linear Polarizer Filter (3mm Thick)
Key Features
  • 1.5 to 6x Filter Factor
  • 0.6- to 2.6-Stop
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
  • Reduces Haze in Landscapes
The Cavision 5.65 x 5.65" Linear Polarizer Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 3mm thick, 5.65 x 5.65" rectangular filters. It helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

Cavision Linear Polarizer Overview

A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain an additional quarter wave plane. The addition of a quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, in-camera auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions. This filter is recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus.

Compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 3mm thick, 5.65 x 5.65" rectangular filters.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus.
Non-coated.
1.5 to 6x filter factor reduces exposure by 0.6 to 2.6 stops.
Glass construction.
Microfiber filter cloth included for filter maintenance as well as a soft pouch for storage and transport.

question

I'm looking to buy this filter to hold in front of the Rokinon 14mm wide angle lens I will buy soon since this lens does not have threads to screw on a circular polarizer. Will there be any adverse effects to my images by holding the filter in front of the lens?
Asked by: STEPHEN
If you plan to use this on a digital camera, I advise you to reconsider - a linear polarizer is designed for film cameras, and this will not be compatible with digial sensors. Unfortunately, there are no filter holders made that can currently accommodate the Rokinon 14mm.

Will this fit the LEE filter system holder (used with the LEE hood)? If not, can the rubber/plastic edge in the picture of the filter be removed so it could fit?
Asked by: Matt
The Lee filter system has to be modified slightly to allow 4x4" filters to fit. The edge is actually glass so cannot be easily removed.

Can I use this filter on a Lee filter system holder?
Asked by: carlos
There are two industry standard nominal filter thicknesses: 2 mm and 4 mm. The Lee holder, while normally set up for 2 mm, can, with the addition of longer screws, can accommodate 4 mm filters as well.
