Westcott 2003 overview

  • 1Description

The 32" Optical White Satin Diffusion Umbrella from Westcott is a light modifier that exhibits wide coverage, low contrast and a substantial boost in the ambient light level. Sturdily built with fiberglass rods and a metal shaft, this umbrella is well-suited to portraiture, providing fill light and high key effects. It also has the ability to become a shoot-through modifier. Instead of traditionally bouncing your light source inside the umbrella, turn it around and aim the convex side of the umbrella toward your subject. While still diffused, you'll get wide coverage and a snappy look with more contrast.

Easy to Mount
Most studio lights include a built-in umbrella receptacle for instant mounting. There are also a variety of mounting brackets available for speedlights with adjustable and tiltable options for precise positioning.
Modify any Light
The umbrella can soften, reflect, and shape whatever light source that you use.

    Westcott 2003 reviews

Optical White Satin Diffusion Umbrella (32") is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST white bounce umbrella The Westcott White Satin umbrellas are my first choice for portrait lighting. Softer than silver umbrellas, yet the satin finish offers plenty of light. One to two stops more light than the usual shoot-through umbrellas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have item for soft light portraits. I use this umbrella for portrait lighting shooting straight through it. The lighting is very soft and diffuses specular highlights.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does umbrella stuff. There are still some plastic parts, of course, but it does seem a bit sturdier than the bottom-of-the-line umbrellas I've found to be practically disposable. Comes with a sleeve and does have a strap for storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive, Works right This is a great small umbrella when that is what you need. Construction is mediocre, but it's very good for the price. There are some plastic parts (like the hub) but the light is just right. I use it mostly as a shoot through and with portraits and product work, it is easy to handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive and and excellent product Some umbrellas are extremely expensive and heavy. I find Wescott products to be perfect for my amateur needs. I've had no issues with Wescott products, but I have with other more professional expensive brands. Almost all companies made stuff in China or somewhere else that has cheap labor rates, but that is no excuse for poor quality control. The company that puts their name on the product owes you a decently made product that meets their stated specifications and one that you can expect a reasonable trouble-free lifetime. I have read that a shoot thru umbrella is the softest light your gonna get and the shoot thru design has the advantage of being inexpensive and lightweight to boot. Collapses to a thin package and works great with my Yongnuo 560-IV flashes. A great low cost solution from B&H that has served me very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I use this umbrella when I need something smaller than a 43 like inside abandoned buildings or events where i dont want to be too obnoxious.. I feel like its a pretty good size it covers a decent amount of area (although dont expect it to light an entire body) The build quality is amazing when you factor in the price, cant beat it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performed perfectly even better than expected. Good price and sturdy construction. Perfect size for head shots. Easily portable for on location shooting. Performed well when used both in reflective or shoot-through modes for fill light. Soft even light. Looses about 1.5 stops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Umbrella I use this umbrella for individual head-and-shoulder shots. My other umbrellas are silver-lined and provide a more specular light. I like the soft light produced by this Westcott. I'll probably buy a larger one next time.
