Westcott 2016 Overview

This 45" White Satin Umbrella with Removable Black Cover from Westcott can be used in standard bounce mode with the black cover installed or in shoot-through mode like a softbox with the cover removed.

Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a softbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject and the strength of the light supply being used.

Westcott umbrellas are rated safe for use with hot lights up to 300 watts.
This size is perfect for a 1 or 2 person headshot, a head-to-waist shot, or a 4x6 ft product setup.

Does the Westcott 2016 have a diffuser that I can order? Or is there a diffuser from another company that I could use on it?
Asked by: Scarlett
As far as I know this umbrella has a diffuser and a black cover. So you can use the diffuser when shooting through the umbrella with the black cover removed. With the black cover attached, you are using it as a reflector.

question

Is 45 the measurement of the arc or the straight diameter on the open side?
Asked by: Greg M.
The 45-inch measurement is the measurement of the diameter of the open end of the umbrella. All umbrellas are measured by the diameter (the measurement across the center) of the open end of the umbrella.

question

Is this Umbrella compatible with the Profoto B1?
Asked by: Louis F.
This umbrella is compatible with a B1. The diffused front of the B1 fills the umbrella nicely when placed near the end of the umbrellas shaft.

question

Is the cover completely removable? I'd like to have the option of using the cover on a Westcott Halo. The Halo doesn't come with such a cover and Westcott appears to not sell individual covers. Thank you.
Asked by: Ricky
yes, the model I have is completely removable. It comes off each umbrella tip and the top point. Hope this helps.

question

The length and diameter of the umbrella when folded, as I am planning to carry it for outdoor shoots? Does it have a strap to fasten after folding ?
Asked by: Shree L.
The overall length when folded is 30 long by about 2 wide. It does have a velcro srtap with a heavy clear plastic sleeve to stow in. If you have an Interfit bag (very nice) you can stow the umbrella and several light stands with ease. You might also want to consider the collapsible Westcott 43 umbrella. It truly stows small (about 9 long) and has a nice nylon sleeve as well as a plastic baggie. It is a very nice umbrella also. Either are fabulous products.
