question

I have a Nikon d300.Is this 300s the same camera?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, it is not. The Nikon D300s was released in 2009, and was the update to the older Nikon D300 DSLR camera, which was released in 2007. The Nikon D300s added 720p HD video recording (at 24 fps), has external stereo sound input, has in-camera movie editing, shoots at 7 fps (the D300 shoots at 6 fps), has dual CompactFlash and SD/SDHC memory card slots, has a Quiet release mode, has a multi-controller on the rear of the camera, has a dedicated Live View and Info button, and has an electronic virtual horizon built into the camera.

This Nikon D300S is an imported camera, yes. It would come with a 1-year limited warranty through B&H, and would need to be returned to B&H if in required in warranty service.

question

Does this camera continuously focus on video mode?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, unfortunately. If you set up tripod mode in the shooting menu, you can refocus at any time during the video by pressing the AF-ON button, or, of course you can manually focus by turning the autofocus feature off.

question

what viewfinder do I need to shoot video with the 300s?
Asked by: Michael N.
Sorry, I have not tried to shoot video with my 300S. However, Nikon's User' s manual suggests that movies need to be shot in Live view mode. (See pg. 58.) I believe that the manual can be downloaded off of Nikon's website or maybe B&H's. I did this myself, but it was a couple of years ago. I hope this helps your customer.

question

What limitations are there for the SD Cards that can be used for this camera. ie Speeds and GB's*
Asked by: Anonymous
The camera is compatible with SD and SDHC type cards. SD cards indicate models which have a capacity up to 4gb, and SDHC indicates models which can have a capacity anywhere from 8 to 32gb's. The camera will perform with any speed of card. The common speeds found on memory cards currently being sold are sufficient for use with this camera. The faster the better.
