Manfrotto 1004BAC overview

  • 1Description

The 12' Manfrotto Alu Master Air-Cushioned Stand is a lightweight support with an impressive load capacity. A clever design feature called QSS (Quick Stack System) allows the stand to fold flat, enabling several stands to be clipped together to save space in the studio or on the road.

The Alu Master comes with a 5/8" (16mm) "Baby" stud, a 1/4"-20 screw, and a 3/8"-16 screw. It features air cushioning to ensure the soft descent of fragile equipment when the locking knob is loosened.

    Manfrotto 1004BAC reviews

Alu Master Air-Cushioned Stand (Black, 12') is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 180.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from High Quality, Easily Stackable This is the first high quality light stand I've owned. The air cushioning effect, wherein if you loosen any one of the knobs it lowers on slowly on a cushion of air should be standard on every stand. Especially if you've ever had one come crashing down with an expensive flash head or monolight on it. I like the flat way it stores and the ability to stack stands together. They snap together and come apart with the push of a button. The only thing I find a bit of an effort is pressing down the middle bracket to spread the legs. Perhaps that will loosen up with use. Very high quality and priced right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Manfrotto 1004BAC Light Stands Rock! A couple of years ago I bought four 13' Manfrotto 3078 light stands to support my Profoto Compact 600R monoblocks. I recently acquired two more Profoto Compact monoblocks - this time the 300R, and went to B&H looking for two more 3078 stands because I had such good luck with them. Being a creature of habit, I was disappointed to find that Manfrotto had discontinued the 3078 and replaced it with the 1004BAC. Under duress, I ordered two of the 1004BAC stands for my new Profoto monoblocks and boy was I blown away! They've added air cushoning to them, so the stand doesn't just collapse under the weight of the light when you loosen a collar. Also, they've come up with this amazing fold flat design that allows the stands to be stacked on each other, requiring a lot less apace in my light stand bag. Now for the bad news . . . I like my new 1004BAC stands so much that I want to replace my old 3078 stands even though there is nothing wrong with them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, Tall, Fold Flat Stands I recently picked up five of these stands and the corresponding roller bag. I'm quite pleased with them. All metal components, sturdy and tall as heck at 12'. I love the fold flat design - they make transportation a breeze. Do note, they are heavy when ganged together. (That's the all metal components coming into play.) My only point of concern is that they rattle a bit. They could have added rubber or felt washers on the legs where the come together to quiet them during setup/tear down/transport. It's a minor point but it caught my attention immediately. I'm a details guy. Using them daily and I'll be buying a few more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are NICE I guess these are a little overkill for me, but, I am impressed by their fit and function. Ordered the second one shortly after receiving the first. If you're looking for a 'strobist' stand, these are too heavy, and the collapsed length is rather long, but, they do fold flat and connect to each other, and can be fitted with a shoulder strap for transport. (which is a cool feature!) Very sturdy, they easily hold the setup I use currently (umbrella and speedlite), and will adapt well for future needs. I am very satisfied with the quality of this stand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Light Stand I initially purchased two if these stands as I had read rave reviews on them as to how good they were. Well all I can say that everything I read was true. These stands have far exceeded my expectations. They are built solid and have no trouble supporting the loads placed on them. The amazing thing is that these units stack flat and clip together to form one compact storage unit. The air cushioning is very useful in preventing damage to supported equipment. The presentation, feel and performance is excellent. I have since purchased another two bringing my inventory to four. Very happy

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice ... but Love these stands for portability and strength. However, the biggest reason I bought these was for the ability to lock them together. While they worked excellent for a while, the cheap plastic clips that control the main feature of locking these together are VERY weak .. they broke after very little use. I do not abuse any of my equipment. They plastic is simply cheap and not the quality I would expect from Manfrotto

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the one. These are the best stands I've ever used. I've been a professional photographer for about 16 years and I've been through a lot of gear. These stands are sturdy, reek quality and the ability to lock them together for a more secure package is priceless. The connectors are plastic, but it seems to be a good quality plastic. No problems so far. I'm a wedding photographer who often rides a motorcycle to jobs as the parking at a lot of our local venues is horrible. I'm able to strap these stands to the rack on my bike as they don't move around when locked together. The height is great and I'll have these stands for many years. I use them for moonlights and speed lights at weddings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stand Use at indoor sporting events and at architectural locations. Easy to use, very stable and great design allowing two or more to click together for easy carrying and/or storage. Attach a carrying strap and sling over your shoulder. Air release is smooth and very effective. One minor flaw: while tightening the mechanism to lock the legs, one of the pins holding the thumb device fell out, rendering it impossible to release the lock without plyers. This thumb device is held by two compression pins inserted into a wheel device that locks and loosens the legs. Luckily I found the pin and squeezed both pins into position while on location. It should be fine. If not, I'll have to lower my rating, since this is an integral part of the stand.
