For fine art photographers looking for a matte medium that can deliver a wide color gamut and high brightness, Epson has developed Hot Press Bright Paper. Made from 100% cotton rag and using a hot press production technique, this paper features a smooth matte finish. The heavy weight of 330 gsm, thickness of 17 mil, and opacity of 98% further give this paper the look and feel of a true fine art paper. Also, through the use of optical brightening agents, this media will help deliver bright whites, deep blacks, and a wide color gamut. Epson S042327 reviews

Hot Press Bright Paper (8.5 x 11", 25 Sheets) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good paper = Great photogrpahy I am currently a student in college and have been using this product for years to print all of my photos for not only class but for art shows and for selling. When I print my photos out the colors always come out great, it is also very durable paper and not very easy to rip. When I first started using this paper I think the first thing I didn't like was figuring out which side I had to use, but over time that has become easier and I don't really feel like I have a problem with it. I really like this product and have been using it for years, I recommended it to all other photographers and friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best paper I ever used I use this paper and the 13x19 size with my Epson R2000 printer. My formerly standard paper was Epson Ultra Premium Matte, which I still like very much. By comparison though, this paper looks richer and the colors have more depth. You seem to be looking into the paper rather than just at the surface. I initially had some trouble getting it to feed right, but found a solution. When feeding it through the single sheet feeder I keep a slight amount of pressure on the paper until the printer grabs it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Matte Paper of Choice When I want a matte surface I print my color photos on this paper. I use Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth for Black & White. The Epson is cleaner looking due to more brighetners added to the pre paper goo. Tonal separation is the best of any matte paper. Best blacks, best shadow detail. This paper comes very close to being able to match a glossy or pearl paper for gamut and adjacent tone separation. If you like matte paper for framing but like the image quality you get in the glossier surfaces this is a nice way to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beautiful paper with delicate tones and luminosity. This paper makes all my b/w pictures look better. As I mentioned in my review of the 13x19 version it does not distract like the shine of a glossy paper yet it is not dull like some matte finishes. It really makes beautiful prints without calling attention to itself. A picture that doesn't look good on it probably should not have been printed. The paper will make a good picture look great and is a great value for such a product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW factor for certain type of prints My go to paper for everyday printing on my Epson Stylus Pro 3880 is Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster. However, when I desire a really artistic look for certain types of photos, Epson Hot Press Smooth Matte Paper meets all of my needs. The paper provides a very rich look; it will not turn a bad photo into a good one, but it will make a good photo pop, and look like a piece of art. The colors are deep and rich looking. The blacks really pop, and the whites shine. As this is a matte paper, I would not use it for photos where I am looking to maximize a bright, shiny look, such as a polished car or gleaming reflections from a pool of water or a recent rain. In that case, I find a gloss or luster or the exhibition fiber paper work best. However, for certain landscapes with deep, rich color and shadows or certain portraits where I want to minimize the bright colors and emphasize a more mid tone palate and deep rich tones, the Hot Press Bright Paper really shines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Brillian Matte Finish Paper I print on an Epson 3880. My two favorite papers for portfolios and prints that will be hung are Epson Hot Press Bright and Exhibition Fiber. I use the latter for about of my prints, especially those with a wide range of colors for which a certain amount of snap is needed. But both EFP and HPB excel at reproducing a wide color range and wide luminosity range. But some prints just look better with a flatter, matte surface. For these HPB is my go to paper. I use it for both B&W and color prints. For images with a narrower color and luminosity range, with particularly muted colors, I use Cold Press Natural. Usually, these images also benefit from a textured paper, somewhat less white paper, like CPN. I can't think of any negatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my favorite paper This paper is amazing. I shoot a lot of night images. Often the blacks look washed out on matte paper. However the tones look wonderful on the Hot Press Bright.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective paper I have been ordering the Hot Press Bright Paper for about two years now, and TWICE I have received defective paper in the 8.5x11 size. It is thicker, courser texture and does not print correctly (grainy, blurry, ink bleeds). I consulted Epson directly and they sent me a replacement package that worked fine, but they had no explanation if it was a defective run and no one at B&H has been able to answer my questions if Epson has pulled this paper and replaced it. When this paper works, it is 5 stars, but two times in a row it's been defective and unusable.
