Manfrotto Background Support System Reviews

Worth the money.

I'd been looking for an inexpensive, but not cheap, background support system and after reading a ton of reviews it seemed like this is what I needed. The cheaper systems just didn't sound sturdy enough for moderate, long term use. So while this system was $100+ more than I was hoping to spend the product was totally worth it. It's not a heavy duty system by any stretch but it appears well made and doesn't feel cheap. From the clamps to the knobs to the stands.

Exactly what I've come to expect with manfrotto products. This backdrop stand is solid compact portable and well built. Everything I needed.

You cant go wrong with Manfrotto. Quality speaks for itself .Easy to set it up or close it down ,no issues what so ever and it doesn't take much space when folded down either.

It could be better for the price.

I have a lot of Manfrotto products, and the quality doesn't quite live up to my expectations. Max height isn't very high. I misread it as expands to 9 ft high, it goes 9 ft wide. The stands are flimsy compared to my Manfrotto light stands. One side collapsed by about 1 ft when left set up over the weekend, something I never experienced since I discarded my budget stands and moved over to Manfrotto. I'm considering buying beefier light stands for this set, and putting the light stands from this kit into storage for backup.

Is a great product. Very fast to set up and well built.  I use it for taking pictures of models standing up and it works perfectly. I wish the support height was just a little bit longer.

Sturdy enough for indoors

I needed a background support for still photography in my house. I rearrange my spot around the house to catch different lights, and it's easy to lift and move. I like that the sliders don't just collapse down but has air shots inside and the legs can be linked when not used - and the legs can stand up even unopened. I really like the sturdy structure too, I was going to buy a cheaper one but the money is worth the price - it is a good investment.

Doesn't fit Superior paper (only Supreme)

I agree with other reviewers that the leg stands are very light, but I think that's the point: it's good for travel. I would recommend using heavier legs with 107'' rolls of paper, but this is fine for the 4 foot rolls and smaller. Ideal for traveling to a client and hanging something small & light. I'm a newbie at backdrops (been shooting on site and outside for 10 years) but I just opened a studio and bought both Superior and Supreme papers. Unless I'm doing something wrong, it seems that this crossbar is too thick for Superior to fit over, so you'll only be able to use Supreme with it. This worked fine in a pinch but I agree it's expensive for being such a light weight model. If you have time to research your own piecemeal setup, that might be even better than this. But not bad. Happy shooting!

I will be working in the studio alone. Will I be able to change the backdrops alone? Can you explain how the top bar attaches?Woman, 5 feet 2 inches.
Asked by: Kim B.
Yes, I change it by myself all the time by alternating raising each side up about 6-12 inches at a time until I reach desired height. The top bar is adjustable width. You will remove the handheld screw mechanism on one side to slide seemless roll on and then retighten the mechanisms on each side to secure to the stands. It comes with clips to secure cloth backgrounds as needed. I use it for a portable set up and it's awesome. It has a little give at max height.

What is the total width including the legs on the stand?
Asked by: Anonymous
The width would be based on the crossbar, which would be 108 in this case.

How much weight can this support system hold? I have a back drop that weighs 8lbs (3.6kgs)...will this support that weight ok?
Asked by: Anonymous
This backdrop support system is capable of holding up to about 14lbs. I'd recommend using caution if you come across a backdrop heavier than that, but for 8lbs you would be fine with it.

Will this system support the Manfrotto 044 Background Holder Hooks and Super Clamps for 3 Backgrounds. I ask because I'm working on a budget and I have a rented artist space where having a ceiling is out of reach even for the extension system of the Manfrotto Auto Poles.
Asked by: Carey
No it is not designed to hold that much weight.

I am not familiar with the US Measure system? Which size paper do I buy to fit this support system if I want to be fully width and long enough to support two fully seated persons (interview) Thank you
Asked by: Anonymous
I use a 8 ft wide x 20ft.long Savage white vinyl background which gives me a little room on either end of the support I then run the long side from top of support to 5 or 6 ft.on the floor to position my posing stools.
