CHAUVET DJ COLORstrip Overview

From Manufacturer

Add some color to your lighting setup with the Chauvet DJ COLORstrip, a linear LED wash fixture that's designed for live entertainment applications such as DJing, concerts, night clubs, and other venues. The unit features 128 red, 128 green, and 128 blue 0.25W LEDs that produce a powerful wash light source with a beam angle of 16° and a field angle of 30°.

Control the fixture with DMX or with the optional IRC-6 remote control or optional LED-FS1. Utilize the master/slave mode to connect multiple fixtures for large coordinated light shows with preprogrammed color mixing and color-chase effects. Alternatively, you can select sound reactive mode and the fixture will react to the beat of the music. Multiple units can be daisy-chained together to save on power cabling. The COLORstrip includes an integrated hanging bracket, which doubles as a floor stand. The fixture comes with a power cord and mounting hardware.

CHAUVET DJ COLORstrip Reviews

Short life

I'm working with a number of these which were purchased by the venue just about 2 years ago and they are already having issues with cell burnout and flickering. The price is nice but I'm now looking to replace them with a product from a different manufacturer.

FANTASTIC LIGHT

The Chauvet color strip is a great light for washes and show stopping effects if there is enough of them linked, i have noticed the wash not being truly blended at short throws but that is easily fixable by installing a piece of acrylic diamond diffuser panel found in the lighting section of any home improvement store just have to cut it to size and perhaps sand the diamond off the edges but the result is worth it. super smooth color washes with no hard color edges even at close range. I own 2 of the full and 12 of the minis and have done this to all of them it was well worth the time and it only cost me 15$ for the panels

question

Do they come with DMX Cables in the box?
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, there are no DMX cables included. The Pig Hog 3-Pin XLR DMX Cable (10') B&H # PIPHDMX10 is one type of cable you can use.

question

approximately how much wall space does the light cover if placed on the ground facing up? I have a 12' long wall and would like to cover most of it with light, esp. nearer the top (8 ft ceilings)
Asked by: Anonymous
If you place the light right at the base of the wall facing directly upwards, it will spread to cover about 5 ft. at the top. However, it will be much brighter at the bottom than it will be at the top of the wall. If you place the light about 8-10 ft. away from the wall and aim it near the middle, it will spread to over 6 ft. and have a much more even cover. Two of these at that distance would nicely cover a 12 x 8 wall. You would need to move to about 15 away to get the spread to cover the whole wall with one light, and at that distance it begins to get a bit dim (but might be okay in a very dark room).

question

Has anyone used these for video? Is there any flicker?
Asked by: derek g.
We didn't use them specifically for video in a studio. But we did video the theatrical presentations (two musicals) that we used them for this summer and on the resulting footage, no flicker was noticeable.

question

How do i get it to do the automated programs, what number do i put in?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are several automated programs on the COLORstrip, but they are very basic varieties. If you want full control and let these babies pop, you will want to get into the DMX controllers. These are great lights!

question

How tall are the mounting brackets?
Asked by: Anonymous
It comes with a pair of short and a pair of longer metal mounting brackets. The short ones keep kind of flush against the COLORstrip body, which might not allow for full tilting. The longer pair allow room for tilting. There's nothing unusual about the mounting, so you could, if you wanted to, find many other mounting bracket (paint the nickel/stainless steel mounts black) options at your local hardware store. But I found the included brackets fully appropriate for the task. And if you're a MacGuyver, you have unlimited possibilities.
