If you are using the shelves on the cart, then you will be locked to setting the cart to specific lengths, depending on the length or configuration of the shelf (some of the shelves do allow you to remove segments and adjust the length, but not as flexible as the cart by itself).

are the wheels metal or plastic?
The one I gotten are metal wheels with rubber tires and actual bearings.
Rolls perfectly even loaded to the extreme.
I will admit, I'm fairly hard on it and abuse it fairly bad.
I'll buy it again should it ever get run over by a truck
