The ECM-674 has been designed as a highly directional and lightweight shotgun microphone, measuring 10.6" in length and weighing 6.5 ounces to ensure good balance even when mounted on compact camcorders.
Smooth Frequency Response
With its flat and wide frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz, the ECM-674 provides sound reproduction that is smooth and natural.
High Sensitivity
The ECM-674 offers an excellent sensitivity of -36 dB and low self-noise level of less than 17 dB SPL, allowing the microphone to be used for clear voice capture even in noisy environments.
Onboard Low-Cut Filter
The onboard two-position (M, V) low-cut switch provides users with a simple method of reducing the effects of undesired ambient noise such as rumble.
AA Battery or Phantom Powered
The two-way powering capability allows the ECM-674 to be driven by 40 to 52 VDC phantom power or a single AA battery, making it suitable for both camcorder mounting and many other sound-gathering applications.
Built-In Battery Liquid Leakage Protection Circuit
Considering that old batteries can leak and damage the equipment they power, the ECM-674 prevents this by continually detecting the output voltage of the battery and shutting off the power supplied to the electric circuit whenever the voltage drops beneath a certain threshold.
Included Accessories
The ECM-674 is supplied with a windscreen that attenuates wind noise by approximately 5 dB, a short XLR cable, a microphone holder (for use on a mic stand), two stand adapters, a molded-type microphone spacer, and a sheet-type microphone spacer.

My 416 is in the shop, so needed a backup asap. The Sony 674 fits the budget, sounds good, is small enough to work as a camera mic or alternately on a boom. Excellent value.

If i have a uwp wireless transmitter with a lavilier mic ... would this work if i had it off a boom pole with the wireless transmitter. -- or will the signals not work ..?
The ECM-674/9X can be used with the UWP beltpack transmitter when powering the mic by battery and using the proper cable ( Sony EC-1.5BX ).

Yes, the Sony ECM-674 Shotgun Microphone turns off when it is disconnected. If you are powering the microphone with a battery and don’t plan to use the mic for an extended period of time, it is recommended that you remove the battery from the battery compartment. The ECM-674 can be powered with a AA battery or using phantom power.
