SANUS ELM501 Overview

The Sanus Elements ELM501 All-In-One IR Repeater is like a dispatcher for infrared remote signals. All that's visible is one small IR receiver. You can aim up to four different remotes at it and it will send the correct signal to the correct unit, even if it's concealed behind a cabinet door.

The ELM501 allows you to keep a neat, clean appearance. Your A/V equipment can be stored in cabinets or behind your projection screen as long as the discreet little IR receiver is in line of site of your viewing position. It can be on your TV set or on a nearby table or counter. You also have the option of drilling a hole in a wall or cabinet so all that's visible is a small dark disk. (Everything needed but the drill is included.)

The unit's method of operation is clever yet simple. From the IR receiver the signals travel by a built-in discreet 36" wire to the 1 x 1 x 4 1/2 inch repeater hub. Plugged into the hub are two wires with two infrared signal repeater heads each. Each repeater head is secured in front of each component's infrared receiver.

Undesirable signals from sunlight and plasma TVs are automatically filtered out and you have complete control over four components that can be "invisible" as far as your guests are concerned.

Note:
Attempting to lengthen repeater connection cord will result in loss of signal strength and possible malfunction of the unit
Effectively replicates infrared signals from remote controls to reach components stored remotely or hidden in enclosed cabinets.
All-in-one kit contains all necessary elements to control up to four components.
Filters undesirable signals from sunlight and plasma TVs to provide error-free operation.
LED status lights provide power and IR signal indication.
Frequency range of 30 KHz – 60 KHz works with multiple AV components.
Tabletop and hole mounting options included in package.

functions as should, could be improved

The cable length on the senders is adequate and they disconnect from the unit for easy cable routing. However, the RECEIVER unit is hardwired to the box and has a SHORT cable, greatly compromising the versatility of installing and locating the whole thing. (They got it backwards). The whole idea of having a repeater is to have the ugly part hidden in a cabinet and locate the RECEIVER out in the open. It is hardwired, forcing you to drill a larger than necessary hole if you want to pass it though a cabinet wall or shelf. They should have all the senders and receivers able to disconnect from the box and provide some extra length to the receiver cable so it can be located farther away. None of this is apparent by looking at the photos. Functionally, it works well.

Not for Long Runs

Good cheap option for short runs. The discreet wire connecting the IR repeater to the receiver is only 36 long. No mention of that anywhere in description.

question

I want one device (ex BluRay Player) to be controlled in a different room, AND the room it is in (I will be splitting the video signal). When the IR emitter is placed in front of the device, does it allow the signal to pass through the emitter?
Asked by: New User U.
Please be more clear! From what I understand you want to have one BluRay player that feeds two rooms right? To do so you need HDMI splitter that has one input and two outputs. You also need two IR kits that you should use in both rooms and place two emitters (from each room IR kit) on front of the BluRay. Make sure you place them on the BluRay where the IR window is (use a flash light to look for it).

question

The manual states that the cable from the receiver to the hub is 36 inches, but does not state the cable length from the hub to the emitters. How long are they?
Asked by: Neil S.
The emitter cables are about 5 ft but are removeable as they use a 1/8 (mono) headphone style plug/jack so could be extended if necessary with an additional extension cable. The unfortunate part of the design is that the RECEIVER is hardwired to the hub and is not very long. They should have designed the receiver with a plug/jack as well.
