confusing interface, mic plug in in back works only half way. estremely use hostile. no volume adj fordubbing. user hostile to the max

This unit is a basic tape deck that performs as advertised. Having the ability to select CrO2 playback or record is a welcome feature. I purchased this to convert a sizable collection of cassette tapes to digital files for preservation that I can play easily from my computer. The one issue which prevented my giving a 5 star rating is that the signal which is output from the USB port is recognized by my Mac as monaural only. To record in stereo for the best sound reproduction on a Mac requires using an audio interface from the RCA jacks on the deck with digital output to my computer. Now my Mac recognizes a stereo input signal that can be recorded using audio processing software like Audacity or Garage Band. Not a deal breaker but it would be nice to have this stated somewhere in the description. I found the info in a user review. This is not a high end tape deck but it performs perfectly well for the price point. I would recommend to a friend. As always, service from B&H is impeccable and fast. Product arrived beautifully packed and in perfect condition. 5 stars for B&H.

It says it takes metal tapes in the description, however in specs it says it takes normal and chromium, can I record on to the highest quality (metal) tapes?

Do nor buy this piece of jonk! I don;t know about metal tapes. It does have a setting for them but I never used it. On regular tapes it records on only one track. And the speed of playback varies. I think the plastic grips are slipping. BUY AMERICAN, or at least First World!

The unit doesn't have a driver, it is a plug and play device. It may not always work with a MAC.

When recording from a receiver's FM source, does the deck show recording level? I assume the deck can record from a stereo receiver, correct?

The unit does not have any drivers. It is detected as USB Codec. But it may have some issues with MAC OS.
