Hi! No, it is completely wired. Must be connected to the receiver. I consider this microphone (AT831B) is more for passive situations, interviews where the speaker does not need to move from one place to another while shooting. Of course you can, but you need someone to watch cables and connections.Enter an answer to this question.

Can this be used as a replacement microphone on for an existing wireless system? (ta3 style connector on the existing system's body pack)
The Audio-Technica AT831b Cardioid Condenser Lavalier Microphone can be connected directly to a wireless bodypack transmitter with a TA3 style mini-XLR input connector that is capable of supplying the proper amount of voltage needed to power the mic. The specs list the power requirement for the AT831b as 11 to 52V.

Is the end of the cable an XLR connector? I have phantom power on my field recorder and don't want to add any power modules.
The Audio-Technica AT831B terminates in a TA3 (miniXLR) connector, but the included power module has a regular XLR output.

The AT831B can operate on phantom power ranging from 9-52 volts and also using battery. There would be no issue connecting to a device that provides 16V phantom via XLR.

Using for interviews.I'm getting a lot of noise from this microphone that I wouldn't expect. Very sensitive to any movement near the microphone like a jacket moving, heavy breaths causes overmodulation. I use the windscreen at all times and that helps some. It's pretty annoying. I've used dozens of mics over the years and have never had this much problems. Am I doing something wrong?Any suggestions? Would a unidirectional mic be better.
The Audio-Technica AT831B is a unidirectional microphone, suitable for professional video, broadcast and sound reinforcement applications. The fact that it is a condenser makes it more sensitive than your traditional dynamic hand-held interview mic. In video production, condensers are preferred because of their sensitivity- especially when pristine audio is demanded. In your case, I would try a couple of things before considering a mic change. 1. Engage the low-cut filter. The power switch has three positions: off , flat , and low-cut . The low-cut filter makes the microphone less sensitive to low frequencies found in wind, breath noise, and general ambiance. 2. Consider adding the Rycote Undercover (B&H#RYUC) lavalier wind cover and adhesive mount to your sound bag. The covers help reduce rustling noise caused by cable movement and friction between the mic element and clothing.
