    Shure SM57-LC Reviews

SM57-LC Microphone is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never the wrong choice I've been professionally recording rock, country, folk, blues, etc. for almost 20years. When newbies ask me what mic to choose I always respond with the same answer. Get a couple of SM-57s! If you have a full mic cabinet like mine you may find a better mic choice for a particular situation (and a bunch of bad choices) but an SM-57 is never a wrong choice. Start here with a couple of SM-57s and build your collection around them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Step one in buying handheld mics. It's the SM57. You need at least one. Enough said. Buy it early, let it roll around in the trunk of your car for a summer and a winter, drop it a few times; and it will sound just as sweet as the old ones. You're going to pay the same everywhere. B&H deserves your business!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's an SM57. There's a tongue-in-cheek rule of thumb in studios, that goes something like 'If you don't know how to record it, stick an SM57 on it'. It's not because a 57 is the clearest, cleanest, best sounding microphone out there, it's because it will sound 'okay' to 'great' on pretty much everything. It can take more level than a 24 bit tracking program can handle, and you can beat the heck out of it, and it will keep on ticking. It sounds great on snares, kick beaters, guitar cabs and bass cabs, sounds good on tom drums, kick drums, and strangely, sounds good on dulcimers. Sounds great on a lot of vocalists, doesn't sound bad on a lot of vocalists. It's the most versatile microphone you'll own. If you're doing any music recording, in a studio, guerilla recording, a live environment, anything, you should get one, or two, or more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from its an SM-57 If you don't already know about the 57, you are a serious novice. It's indestructible and sounds great on tons of things - I've used 57's for guitar amps, drums, vocals, and everything else. I had to get a second one because I want to use one on a guitar cab and another on a snare drum at the same time. I've used and abused the heck out of my old one, which is still going strong after about 8 years. The 57 is ideally for close micing loud sources, but can be used for anything if it sounds good to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upped My Voice Over Game! This little mic has drastically changed my voice overs. For the past few months, I've been recording voice overs for videos with the shotgun microphone I use for field interviews but was not pleased with the ambient noise it picked up. Well, I am pleased to say that those days are behind me! The SM57 delivers gorgeous voice quality even in rooms that aren't ideal for recording. quite pleased

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Microphone This microphone was purchased for church applications: recording and amplification of instruments and occasional voice applications. It is well-constructed and solid. I like the feel and robustness. I would not use this for pipe organ or grand piano music, but it is absolutely great for acoustic guitar and other instruments without significant low bass. Highly recommended.I like not having to fear an occasional drop or bump, something that is likely to happen in church use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SM57 - The best thing since sliced bread! These things are awesome. Simple device with more utility than a Swiss army knife. You can't go wrong with these. Mic anything from drums to vocals to guitar cabs. Can't have enough of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A classic mic This purchase replaces an SM57 that finally gave up the ghost. It was a go-to voice mic for us for decades. Great response and frequency range. Sounded great to the last but a drop to the floor one last time did it in. This is always a good buy.

I'm a comedian looking for the best recording device for audience laughter. I have equipment to record my voice, but whats the best device for capturing as much audience laughter as possible?
    Asked by: Anonymous
I disagree that one should use an omni mic for picking up audience laughter. Most clubs and auditoriums have PA systems, and you want to focus on the audience while not picking up the PA system. Therefore, you need a directional microphone that you can point at the audience and away from the PA loudspeakers. The SM57 will work OK in this application. So will other directional microphones.

does it work with the canon 5d mark II? what cable do i need for Shure SM57-LC Microphone to work with my 5d?
    Asked by: a r.
Not sure it depends on what type of audio inputs your camera has. The mic takes a standard xlr connector so it will probably have to be terminated at the other end with something compatible or adapted.
