question

I'm a comedian looking for the best recording device for audience laughter. I have equipment to record my voice, but whats the best device for capturing as much audience laughter as possible?
Asked by: Anonymous
I disagree that one should use an omni mic for picking up audience laughter. Most clubs and auditoriums have PA systems, and you want to focus on the audience while not picking up the PA system. Therefore, you need a directional microphone that you can point at the audience and away from the PA loudspeakers. The SM57 will work OK in this application. So will other directional microphones.

Does this mic need a direct box when connecting ...

Does this mic need a direct box when connecting to a mixer? The mixer is a Yamaha MG if that matters.
Asked by: David
No. Use a microphone input on the mixer and use the trim or gain control on the mixer to get good gain from the mic. Not to much and not too little! Just Right!

question

Can the SM 57 microphone plug directly into my Canon HF 100 HD video camera with a 1/8 (3.5MM) cable?
Asked by: Bob K.
The Shure SM57 can be connected to the 3.5mm input of a camera. For the best sound, it is recommended to use a combination of XLR cable, and specially designed XLR to 3.5mm adapter. The Kopul LMT100 will match the low impedance output of the mic to the high impedance input of the camera. http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD
